Southeast Missouri has experienced unseasonably warm weather lately. If you've been outside it's felt more like May than March. But the mild temperatures and sunshine have made for great baseball weather.
The local high school baseball season started this week. If you head out most weekday afternoons or Saturdays you're likely to find a great game taking place at one of the area ball fields.
The college season started a few weeks ago, but this weekend the Southeast Missouri State University team starts the conference portion of its schedule. The Redhawks will face off against last year's OVC regular-season and tournament champion Austin Peay. After a 3 p.m. start today, the teams are scheduled to play 1 p.m. contests Saturday and Sunday.
Though off to a rough start, the Redhawks (7-15) have a chance to rebound this weekend with three critical games against the Governors. Considering eight of the team's 15 losses have been by two runs or less, the Redhawks could be poised to turn their season around.
We hope you consider heading out to Capaha Field this weekend to support the Redhawks or find a local high school game to watch. These games offer great entertainment for the entire family.
