We noted with interest recently the dedication of a chapel at the local Missouri Veterans Home in response to the residents' desire to have a place to worship. The Veterans Home is a modern facility with a great many conveniences for its residents, though among them wasn't a place to worship. Veterans who live at the home expressed an interest in having space at the facility where church services could be held.

Responding to this, an American Legion post in Cape Girardeau conducted a fund-raising effort to establish a makeshift chapel in the home's multipurpose room. Materials, labor and money were donated for the endeavor. An Easter dedication was held for the chapel. Further, there is an effort under way to raise money for a permanent chapel on the grounds.

Veterans' organizations are extremely active in many aspects of community life, and singling out this contribution serves to amplify their many and varied activities. In this case, they saw a need deserving of immediate action and took steps to see the project through. We applaud members of the American Legion post for helping their brothers in arms.
