Nothing generates more holiday cheer than helping the children of needy families. That is the aim of the Christmas Toy Box Drive that is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees and the Southeast Missourian.
The Toy Box effort has two major components. One is for parents of needy families to apply for gifts for their children. This is done at the Salvation Army, which serves as the processing center for the applications. The other component is donating new toys to be used to fill all the requests.
Toy Box usually reaches some 400 to 500 families each year. That is about 1,000 to 1,200 needy children who get toys at Christmastime, thanks to the generosity of the many donors. Toys may be delivered to the Southeast Missourian office, 301 Broadway, or to West Park Mall. Other drop-off locations will be announced. Every donation help make a difference to some child this Christmas.
