Today is Election Day.
Make it a point to vote.
It's a primary election with a good amount of local races on county ballots and an important statewide initiative.
Throughout the four-county area of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry and Scott counties, there are races for judges, prosecutors, presiding commissioners, state representatives and ballot initiatives. Most of these races will settle who will represent their parties in the general election, but some will run unopposed in the general election, so today's vote essentially decides certain races.
Prop A, otherwise know as the Right to Work initiative, will bring many to the polls as the state decides whether to allow unions to be able to compel employees to join a union and be forced to pay dues as a condition of employment. This newspaper has editorialized in favor of Prop A, which will improve the economic condition of the state. Perryville has a very important measure on its ballot to pay for a big sewer plant. Gordonville will decide on a use tax/vehicle sales tax issue.
Voting is an exercise all voting-age adults should take seriously. Check out www.semissourian.com/election and learn about the races and issues before heading out to the polls.
Voting opens at 6 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
