Thanksgiving is upon us, and we hope you enjoy the day with family, friends and plenty of good food. We have much to be thankful for, including the many fun festivities in this area during the Christmas season.
A favorite tradition is Christmas parades. Old Town Cape will hold its parade, themed "Christmas for Everyone," at 5 p.m. or dusk on Sunday. The parade is limited to 100 entries.
As of Tuesday morning there were 98 entries. Those interested can call Nicholle Hinkle at Old Town Cape at 334-8085 or visit oldtowncape.org.
Jackson's parade, the Jaycee Foundation Christmas Parade, is themed "Christmas in Jackson." It starts at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in uptown Jackson.
Entries are being accepted. For information, call the Jackson Area Chamber of commerce at 243-8131. Entrants are encouraged to donate $10, which helps offset parade expenses.
The Scott City Christmas Parade, themed "The Polar Express," also is scheduled for Dec. 7. It begins at 5 p.m. at Bob's Foodliner parking lot, heading along Main Street, Ruth Avenue and commencing at Scott City Park.
Individuals, business and area parks will have light displays. Significant effort goes into these, and the displays are a tradition many enjoy. One in downtown Cape Girardeau: Hutson's window display, which will open for viewing on Thanksgiving Day. It is always worth a stop on your Christmas lights tour.
