Tomorrow night will be a historic moment in the history of Cape Girardeau Central High School. The football team, having previously played its home games at Houck Stadium, will open its season against Festus High School at the new Tiger Stadium on the high school's campus.

The stadium, along with other new district construction and maintenance projects, was made possible thanks to the passage by district voters of a $40 million bond issue in April 2010.

In addition to the excitement of a new season of high school football, there will be other special festivities to mark the stadium's opening and the school's centennial.

Pregame ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include a recognition of those who have been instrumental in the stadium's opening. Also highlighting the festivities will be a performance by the Marching Tigers Band.

All former Central football players and coaches are encouraged to attend and be recognized on the field at halftime. And if you have a vintage school jersey, or simply want to dress in the school's colors, you are encouraged to do so. The Marching Tigers Band will be back on the field at halftime, and the school's dance team will also perform.

Those wishing to purchase season tickets may do so by calling the high school's athletic office at 335-8467. General admission tickets will be sold at the gate.

Congratulations to Central High School on the opening of its new stadium, and thank you to everyone who helped make the dream a reality. What a spectacular way to kick off the high school's centennial.
