Some quick facts:

The fastest growing segment of our population is over 60 years of age. At present 11,115 persons in Cape County are over 60, and more than 15 percent of these live in poverty. Their needs are great and they need a better quality of life. This need can be partially met by passing the tax levy on April 2.

What will it cost you? If you own an average house and car, it will cost you about $5 per year. If you do not own a house but do own a car, it will cost you from about 50 cents to $3 per year. The tax is only 5 cents on each $100 of assessed valuation.

Some services which could be provided are: (1) home work in the way of minor repairs within the home for those who are unable to do it or to hire someone to do it; (2) personal care for the ill, e.g., bath~ing, grooming, house cleaning, etc.; (3) respite care to provide some relief for loved ones who need to get some free time; (4) transportation to medical appointments, shopping, going to eat, etc.; (5) nutrition centers need to expand home deliveries to many more shut-ins in all parts of the county; and (6) more adult daycare programs such as Eldercare.

The tax is intended to improve services to senior citizens, not to provide capital improvements. Many of the elderly are "put away" and forgotten or neglected. They need more care and are so very deserving and appreciative.

This is the best bargain you will ever find. Go to a fast food place and order a large hamburger, fries, coleslaw, and a drink, and it will cost you more than this tax for one year. Please vote yes on April 2.
