To the Editor:
In response to a Southeast Missourian editorial captioned "Taxpayers should carry their anger to Congress," I suggest that citizens do just that.
Fiscal irresponsibility on Capitol Hill is a national disgrace and voters must demand that it be stopped.
First and foremost, a nation-wide voter registration drive is in order. Many thousands of qualified citizens are not registered to vote. Voting our convictions is the only way to be heard in Washington. There are more of us than there are politicians in Washignton, so let us send them a message.
Taxpayers are forced to pay for the budgetary mistakes of Congress and it is imperative for members of Congress to be held accountable. The combined efforts of the public citizen to put pressure on Congress for a fair share of revenue will ease the financial problems in our state in education and in the general welfare.
It is the sworn duty of Congress to promote the general welfare so let us hold them responsible in no uncertain terms. Register and vote!
