To the Editor:
This is my first ever letter to the Editor. This is also the first year in many that I have become interested enough in an election to actively involve myself to this extent. I mention this so the reader will know that I am not someone who is always spouting off about something or other.
The national debt is over $4,000,000,000,000 and increasing at a most alarming rate. I know that people can have a difference of opinion about things, but how could anyone not agree that this is a very serious problem. Something must be done to eliminate deficit spending and to begin reducing the national debt.
My educational background and professional experience have provided me with a better understanding of economics and financial matters than the average person. I have a degree from SEMO with a major in economics, I have completed two post-graduate banking schools, I spent 10 years as a commercial banker and I have run my own successful business for the past seven years. It is important for the reader to be aware of my background so they may have some assurance that I have some knowledge and expertise in economics and financial affairs.
I am not going to get into the reasons why the national debt and deficit spending are so hazardous to our financial health. That should be quite obvious to everyone since Ross Perot explained it so well to the American people in his book and television programs. I strongly encourage every working person in America to read his book because he explains this problem and offers his solutions in terms that everyone can understand.
However, this letter is not about the deficit. The main point I want to get across is to question why hardly anyone of prominence in government, business, or the media have seen fit to give the debt and deficit issue the attention it deserves now that Ross Perot has brought it out of the closet and told everyone the truth about this monster.
The American people are more intelligent than the media and the major political parties give them credit for. There are bound to be other people out there who understand this issue and the consequences of not addressing it. How is it possible that anyone could believe that either major party, Clinton, Bush, or any incumbent can (or will) seriously attack this debt and deficit problem. All of the aforementioned are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
Please, for yourself, your country, and your children's future, register to vote, turn out the incumbents and vote for Ross Perot. This may be our last chance to elect someone who is willing and able to confront the established order.
