An Open Letter to Missouri Elected Officials:
Pull you respective heads out of the sand and wake up! How easy it is to say the vote on Proposition B was "A Clear Signal From The People" that they do not want to increase funding for education. It was a clear signal~ you just "Missed the Light"!
The people clearly signaled they are sick and tired of open-ended, do-nothing legislation with no clear direction. Sick and tired of being told one thing and then getting something else. Sick and tired of new money for education going to universities with fat payrolls, instead of elementary and secondary schools already deep in red ink. Sick and tired of new legislation that creates more soft Jefferson Cit~y jobs for friends of the Governor, Senate, and House (under the disguise of "Accountability")! Just plain sick and tired of a lot of talk and no action. Take the clear signal of the people, and do something about it. Present them with a concise, clearly written funding package of legislation to help those schools in need and the people will clearly signal their support.
In my 18 years of teaching in public schools, ~the people have never let me down. When we needed help, they have come through. The people did not reject education on election day, they rejected Proposition B, a poorly written, ambivalent, do-nothing piece of legislation. If you, as their elected representatives, continue to ignore education in Missouri, it is my sincere hope they will reject you next election day!
I'm a teacher who voted no on Proposition B.
