To the Editor: I have never written to an Editor before but feel that it is time to speak out opposing the way our Missouri Legislators are telling us what we must do by voting in their pet: "Taxes and more taxes." I must accept the 6-cent gas tax hike as I didn't have a chance to vote on it but I am sick and tired of them trying to tax us for education without we the people being able to vote on it. They surely know how we feel about another tax increase after what happened to Proposition B...

Legislators, I wish you would try to live on a fixed income. We wouldn't need any more education funds if the s chools would scale back the amount of sports, expense of running school buses all over the country to play so many games, and just devote more time to do what the teachers were hired to do - teach.

If this Legislature passes the increase in property tax, we sure know what to do come Election Time. Enough is enough.

My hat is off to Charles J. Lance of Scott City. I hope everyone will read his letter to you in the February 28th Southeast Missourian.
