The job of educating children is essential. Too often, people don't stop and pat teachers on the back for important job they do.

That's why Educator of Year awards in both Cape Girardeau and Jackson are noteworthy. It offers a chance to showcase some of the best educators in the region.

The chambers of commerce in both communities have shown enterprise in organizing these awards. They well realize the importance of good schools to a community.

Cape Girardeau's Chamber has been sponsoring the awards a number of years. This year's winners include Dr. Barbara Capshaw Kohfeld, Catherine L. Kapfer, Kathy Wright and Dr. Keith Russell.

It marks the first year for the awards in Jackson. Winners are Andrea Sachse, Marilyn Jansen and Sonja Davis.

All these educators care about children and community. The embody what good teaching is all about.
