Thanksgiving dinner is a joyous occasion that most of us look forward to with great anticipation. But not all in Cape Girardeau have the resources to enjoy this holiday feast.
To meet this need, the Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual Thanksgiving Day dinner. The organization has received enough turkeys this year. However, they are still in need of hams and side dishes such as green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. Other side dishes will also be accepted in addition to paper products.
Last year the Salvation Army served 1,400 people Thanksgiving Day dinner.
The Salvation Army hosted its fifth annual Empty Bowls Project banquet last Sunday and Wednesday. Hand-crafted ceramic bowls were given to attendees.
The bowls are still available for purchase at the Garden Gallery located at 835 Broadway, Suite 100, in Cape Girardeau. All proceeds from the bowls go to the Salvation Army's community meals program.
Donations for the Thanksgiving dinner may be brought to the Salvation Army at 701 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau.
While preparing your Thanksgiving dinner this week, consider supporting this worthy cause.
