I want to thank Josh Mlot for having me as a guest on his recent podcast. He gave me the opportunity to acknowledge many people in the community who made my coaching career so special for me. I know that I could not possibly recognize all of those who have contributed to the success of our programs but, I did try to mention a few. Unfortunately, my brain and tongue are not always on the same page and I misspoke about two men who have been instrumental in the growth of soccer in the Cape Girardeau area. David Ross, longtime director of the Show Me Center, and Craig Billmeyer with the Noon Optimist, were key players in making indoor soccer a reality in Cape. Additionally, Craig’s club team provided a rich talent pool for the local high school programs.
I want to also recognize the other programs in the area. I am grateful for the friendly rivalries against quality competition that pushed us to improve. Some of my best memories are of seeing our Bulldog guys arm in arm with Tigers, Indians or Pirates for pictures together after many a hotly contested game.
I also want to take this time to thank the Southeast Missourian, KFVS-12 and the local radio stations for their coverage of our sports teams. Part of the magic of sports is the way that they unite communities. The Cape Girardeau area is lucky to have such a strong local media presence.
