To the editor:
Merry Christmas and happy new year to all my friends and family in and around Cape Girardeau.
It is Christmas Day here in Afghanistan, and the soldiers are doing well. Aside from being so far away this Christmas from our families and friends, we are witnessing a gift of our own here.
Yesterday, President Hamid Karzai swore in his new cabinet, this being another milestone in the birth of a new democracy. Afghanistan is well on its way to gaining the peace, prosperity and freedom her people so richly deserve.
It is a wonderful feeling to see the hope and appreciation in the eyes of the men, women and children here. The people of Cape Girardeau, particularly the employees of the Richard. G. Wilson U.S. Mail Processing and Distribution Center, the main Cape Girardeau Post Office, the Cape Shrine Club, the VFW and the Park Hills AmVets have been so supportive of the people of Afghanistan as well as our troops. There are too many great Americans to name in this letter. Thank you all.
