To the editor:
What a great time to live in Cape Girardeau. The residents of Cape Girardeau have shown their faith in our city leadership when they overwhelmingly voted Tuesday to approve the three proposed amendments to the city charter.
The Charter Review Committee is to be commended for its hard work and dedication to these important issues. Committee members were Thomas M. Meyer (chairman), Ron Hahs, Chris Hutson, Jim Limbaugh, John Layton, Dan Niswonger, Beckie Richey Mocherman and Kathy Swan.
As you may recall, these amendments surfaced during our annual city council retreat last year. We appointed the commission, which ultimately recommended these issues be considered by the voters.
We appreciate the coverage provided by all the media in Cape Girardeau, as we know their dissemination of crucial information aids greatly in our informational efforts. We also thank the Charter Review Committee members who made public presentations.
Most importantly, we thank you, the citizens of Cape Girardeau, for taking the time to understand these somewhat complicated issues and for making the effort to support them.
The future of Cape Girardeau will be brighter because of your impact.
JAY B. KNUDTSON, Mayor, Cape Girardeau
