Today many of us will enjoy eating lots of food and spending time with family and friends on this American holiday. Having food on the table and people to share it with are just a few things to be thankful for.
There's also health, homes, jobs, the great country we live in and more that many give thanks for.
But sometimes challenges pop up in each of our lives. When tough times bring you down, whatever the circumstance may be, it's easy to focus on the difficulties you're faced with. But at least for today, try to think about all the good things in life, no matter how small they might seem in the scheme of things.
For anyone that needs a place to spend Thanksgiving Day, the Salvation Army of Cape Girardeau and Stooges Restaurant in Jackson will be providing free meals.
The Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, and deliveries are available for those who are homebound.
Stooges requires a reservation for the free meal. Seatings are available at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
"First off, it's open to anybody," Stooges owner Ron Cook said. "You can come whether it's a financial reason or you just don't want to be alone on the holiday."
Happy Thanksgiving; we hope your day, and the days to come, are filled with peace and happiness.
