I'm writing to support congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson against the attacks on her. She has never voted for a congressional pay raise, and never will. Democrats have also accused her of voting against a pay increase for the military. In fact, the bill would have allowed gays and lesbians to serve openly immediately, without even the study of the issue requested by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A pay raise was just attached so that liberals like Nancy Pelosi and Tommy Sowers could use the vote against Republicans. Emerson has always supported the best equipment, training and pay for the military, and can be trusted to put our defense ahead of politics. Unlike Sowers, who has yet to state his positions on Iraq and Afghanistan, Emerson has been specific in her support for both missions, even when it wasn't popular. As a veteran of Iraq, with over 20 years of service, I urge the voters of the 8th District to support the only candidate in this race with a clear record of support for our military, our veterans and our national security: Jo Ann Emerson.
