Limbaugh's harshness

If there was ever any doubt that the Southeast Missourian is an extremist right-wing mouthpiece, it vanished with the Sept. 27 issue. Before readers even see a word about Pope Francis speaking in Philadelphia with his message of peace, love and inclusion, we read the harsh words of David Limbaugh characterizing the pope as an exploiter. Limbaugh's clueless, mean-spirited words about the pope are, apparently, more important to the staff of the Missourian than the words of the pope himself. What a disgrace -- terrible news judgment on so many levels. The people of Southeast Missouri deserve better.

Immigrants, Vatican

Free market meds

Some smarty pants hedge fund guy bought a pharmaceutical company and raised the price of an effective anti-cancer drug to an unaffordable level. His initial response was a smirky expression defense of his action, pretty much saying that most of us were too dumb to understand the necessity of his deed. The Southeast Missourian's response? Defend the hedge fund guy's actions by reprinting a column written by a Big Pharma propagandist. This was so far beyond the pale that it surprised me that it would be reprinted, even in the Southeast Missourian.

Will is wishing

Chill, George. Longtime sober and staid establishment conservative columnist George Will is apparently starting to panic. He recently wrote that Donald Trump's decline is "inevitable." Even the most casual observers in politics know that nothing is certain. Will is allowing his usual cool and analytical approach to be clouded by the wish giving father to the thoughts.

Paid pizza

I want to thank the person who put a considerable sum toward my family's bill at Paglaia's Friday Sept. 18. Our son had just graduated from basic training and AIT. We had not seen him since May 30. Your generosity put ice cream with the cake. God bless you! Thank you!

Separation

Why is the Pope allowed to address Congress? Why is he meeting with our president? This is against the separation of church and state.
