I ALSO have contacted Mr. Gateley in regard to a problem on Dumis Drive in the Red Star area. If you would, please drive by Dumis Drive off of Country Club and Cape Rock. You will see what I'm talking about. Also, drive down Main Street in Red Star and you will also see. I've written letters to the police, City Hall and to council members, but nothing seems to get done. Apparently we have to live with this mess...

Trying to clean up mess in Red Star

Stories about Ashcroft inspire poem

I HAVE a poem to commemorate the recent stories regarding Ashcroft and his alleged racism: If your heart is full of hate and your arguments won't rate, cry racism, cry racism.

If rage fills your mind and to whitey you can't imagine being kind, cry racism, cry racism.

If you cheer for thugs when honest cops get mugged, cry racism, cry racism.

When the other side is right so below the belt you fight, cry racism, cry racism.

Thanks for the mum and raking leaves

SATURDAY WAS Make a Difference Day, and I'd just like to thank the Central Junior High girls Kelly Tummins, Diana Wilke and Stephanie Koenig for giving me a mum and raking my leaves.

No traffic jams in Jackson

I MOVED here from a large city, and this is all I can say. You are so Swampeast Missouri if you believe that Jackson, in its entire existence, has ever experienced a traffic jam.

Make music, not war

IT'S TOO bad Clinton couldn't think of music instead of war when he was bombing all those countries. The VH1 music concert on TV Saturday should have taken place way back to distract Clinton from his anger and war actions.

Get tough with fighting students

I'M IN shock after reading in the paper of a second fight at Central Junior High School. This type of behavior is totally unacceptable and not fair to 95 percent of good kids who go to that school. I think the general public wants the maximum penalty allowed by law on these incidents and wants to see it applied to these kids. It's time to get tough.

Thanks for noting Reagan's abilities

I WANT to compliment Peter Kinder on his column about President Reagan. Edmond Morris' distorted and disgusting book about President Reagan should have been scrapped by the publishers. Thanks, Peter, for pointing out President Reagan's excellent abilities which are too often ignored by the liberals.

He's given everything away

I WANT to respond to the comment that said we'll pay for playing politics. We sure will. Clinton took a few hundred thousand dollars from the Chinese, has transferred nuclear secrets to them, allowed their spies to come in to our nuclear laboratories and allowed missile secrets to be transferred to them. I couldn't even get into the Pentagon, but Red Chinese agents can. He gave all this stuff to them. Clinton has given billions of our money away to the Russians and the Africans, but he claims we can't have a tax cut. Restore power to the voters

IF JACK Stapleton sounded pessimistic about the state of our government in his column, he has good reasons for his concerns. He was right on target from the poor return farmers receive for their products to our ignorance of local politics, not to mention our low participation rates in elections. I believe many people feel helpless fighting against the influence of big money and politics. We need to attain the power of one vote per person as opposed to the power of corporate and union money.
