Stranded-motorist scam nets $20I WAS just reading in Speak Out about "Stranded motorist looks like a scam." Exactly the same thing happened to me. A church-going man said he needed a new battery to get to Olive Branch. I gave him $20. I called the police department, and they said yes, it probably was a scam.
CONCERNING THE charter schools-public schools that is being debated: Charter schools are public schools that operate independently of the local school district, having received a charter do so from a university or community college. They operate free of many state regulations that apply to regular public schools. In the criticism, they talked about public schools not being able to react because of the current bureaucratic structure being too slow. I wonder why. Could it be those same state regulations that hamstring public schools in order to do anything very quickly.
I HAVE a comment about the "Go for It" program at the Show Me Center. The actual program was only 56 minutes in length, yet the children gave up anywhere from three to four hours of education time. The program itself did have good information, but nothing different from what the school professionals already teach. Yes, some of the kids do pick up different things from different people teaching, but why don't you as a parent ask your child what he or she learned? I bet your child will say "Hey, cool music. Great light show. Hey, it was fun." But guess what, parents, I bet they missed the health topics. Also it was so loud. What about your child's ears? Is that really healthy.
I DON'T care how Swampeast Missouri it makes me sound, I'll still drive six miles to purchase gas 10 cents cheaper than it is in Cape. If the station in Jackson can make a living off of more reasonable gas prices, why can't the Cape stations survive as well.
THE YELLOW-light police are really out there lately. So you senior citizens, particularly, be very careful. The city very much wants to make money at your expense. They consider a yellow light a red light. They used to give you tickets on that, and it wasn't too popular. So now they"re resorting to making the yellow light a red light. The man's name was Hogg
IN REGARD to the article about railroading terms and the Hogg law, the actual Hogg law was named because the senator who introduced the bill in Congress was named Hogg.
THIS WEEK a friend shared with me that she had had an abortion. I was faced with the opportunity to try to minister to her that God will forgive her and that Christians should show her love and mercy in this situation. I grieve for her, because she was given bad advice. She was not told that there was no hope in this situation. I feel like she and the young man involved did not tell their situation and did not ask for advice. They just kept it a secret and were afraid to tell their parents who after the fact were told, were grieved and heartbroken that they hadnt been told earlier. I just want to urge every parent to have a conversation with their children, boys and girls, and let them know that no matter what kind of trouble they feel like theyre in, no matter if they feel that theres no hope for the situation, that they need to talk to someone that they respect and find out all their options before they make a decision that could result in lifelong regrets.
I SEE the real commander-in-chief, Hillary Clinton, is going to put her foot down. She doesn't want the Navy to use its bombing range in Puerto Rico because it may have a negative impact on her upcoming senate race.
IN RESPONSE to the caller who wondered about the double standard in baseball: That's not the case. Darryl Strawberry only broke laws. But Pete Rose broke a baseball rule, and everyone knows that the rules of a sport are far more important than the laws of the land.
KUDOS TO professor Bill Weber of the economics department at SEMO for his objective, critical analysis of Pauline Fox's exaggeration of the beneficial effect to the community of the so-called River Campus. In defense of Mrs. Fox and her high numbers, she probably assumed that the same people who built the Kayla Stroup fountain would also build the River Campus. The voters have rejected the River Campus concept. It's time for the SEMO administrators to stop beating a dead horse and erecting a money-losing monument to themselves. If they want to see their names on a plaque, build a new football stadium.
