I JUST WANT to say how dreadful it has been for the Cruzans to have to wait this long to be able to end the life of their daughter in a humane way. As a Missourian of long standing, I am absolutely ashamed of Attorney General Webster's stand in barring the family from permitting their daughter to die. His lack of contesting the current appeal just proves how ridiculous his other defense of the state was. I don't think anyone can agree that he was doing anyone, including the state, any service. Thank you.

SOME TIME AGO I noticed about the spill on Fountain St. was in the paper three or four times, twenty, thirty gallons maybe. On the west of the town several thousand gallons spilled in the past week and not a thing in your paper. Could it have been the first spill was Mayor Rhodes' spill? Could you give me an answer on this?

I'D JUST LIKE to make a comment about Chaffee's Christmas parade they had on the 8th of December. They had a police escort all the way through town until they hit Highway 77. Then the police ran off and left the parade with all the floats and kids on those floats out on the highway. The policeman at the end of the parade left before it got through. They didn't have anybody to slow them up coming up on the rear of them. I just think it was a poor show of the police force for the city of Chaffee. They couldn't stick with the parade on the main highway to slow it down when there were over 20 and 30 kids on the floats out there on that highway. Thank you.

YEAH, MR. RUST, I see Mr. Pritchard's ruffled your feathers. I'm so glad to see this. We had a little bit of more balanced news media reporting whenever the News Guardian was operating. I sent you a letter and you didn't publish it. I called in Speak Out and you didn't publish it. You publish what you want to, what you feel like is not too much negative reflection on your conduct. But as far as I'm concerned you're strictly irresponsible when it comes to reporting. I would hope that Pritchard would make a gate somewhere where somebody could be getting the information across that needs to be and certainly Mr. Pritchard has done that so far. But in reading the paper today I see you and Mr. Kinder both have really, really got your feathers up in this one. But, keep at it Mr. Pritchard, we wish you the best of luck. And, this is not from the same phone call, Mr. Rust.

YES, I WOULD like to know some information. I would like to know how many times has the city council, the council members themselves, have played golf at the JC Municipal Golf Course. Thank you.

I HAVE JUST called in to Don Pritchard's business phone number and have left this message. He seems to me to be sincere when he says he will not censor his Speak Out. I hope that the Southeast Missourian will be as sincere also. Here is my Speak Out: Mr. Martin, it seems to me that you resent the authority and try to always lay the blame on someone else's spotless name. Do I note a shoulder chip to go along with all that lip? Your comments and diatribes were always the pits, and showed you've truly lost your wits. Venom from your pen and mouth did reign, but only showed you to be a monkey brain. Thank you.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT about an endowment fund for Toybox? I, for one, would contribute to an endowment fund. After a few years of this there would be money coming in from the interest that would help with the Toybox. Thank you.

ARE CITY ORDINANCES, codes, permits and zoning for certain people or just to the city's preference? This concerns a parking lot that was put in without a permit, not zoned and for a neighborhood restrictions and put in by a doctors' complex on Themis without an engineer, no permit and not zoned. The parking lot was used by the doctors for eight years and abandoned the last two years. And now they have turned it into a through street for the area plus damaging the area property owners by not putting in a necessary drain. Either the city has been prejudiced or don't go by their city ordinance only to who that it is, who is doing it. Why can't a city ordinance be for all citizens? Why does the city have to have the city code is they just show prejudice to their choice? This situation has just been brought up to the city before but was strictly ignored. When one party was revoked because it was a residential district, then they let it put in without permit, no zoning change, engineering. Do we have a city ordinance or do we not?

THE CAPE RIVER Heritage Museum is closed until the first Saturday in March. For groups and out of town guests, call 335-6333 and we will try to provide a guide and open the museum for you. Meanwhile, enjoy the Christmas season at the Glenn House.

WE LIVE IN THE northeast part of Cape. For the past 30 years or more, cement dust has covered our cars and everything else outside. When will Lone Star Cement Co. install effective pollution devices on their plant?

DEAR SPEAK OUT, I would like to have a couple questions answered if you don't mind. First off, what kind of roses do they have in Memorial Park Cemetery along 61? They were still blooming real nicely recently and they were simply beautiful. I would like to know what kind they were. Also, sometime ago there was an article in the paper about saving newspapers and in January they could be turned in for a free tree if you had 3 ft. of paper. I was wondering, does this apply to people who live in the rural areas near Cape? Thank you.

COULD YOU FIND out about the senior citizen discounts? I was under the impression that the Southeast Missourian printed Wednesday only senior citizens 10% discount at Famous. I thought every Wednesday was senior citizen discount at the mall. Could you check that out? I told my mother that it was every Wednesday, all stores in the state of Missouri, if you had a senior citizen discount card, one of those silver citizen that Ashcroft gives out, that all stores recognized that. Could you find out and print that whether that's true? Thanks.

I'M CALLING TO question your one-sided criticism of Mayor Rhodes that appears to be penned frequently by Peter Kinder. It appears to me that Peter Kinder, who is a close, personal friend of David Barklage, has a conflict of interest when criticizing Mayor Rhodes. It appears that the newspaper is always slanted to support Barklage, Spradling and Limbaugh, and not once have we seen him or your newspaper compliment Mayor Rhodes on any of his positive contributions to the community. Very early on Mayor Rhodes offered to support a name to regional highway initiatives including working cooperatively with other communities in the area. He helped reduce the tension caused by the poorly arranged anaxiation initiatives of the city management in Cape Girardeau. Rhodes initiatives also combated in approval of the fesibility money for the Interstate 66 project. I realize the newspaper would rather, and Peter Kinder would rather let that highway go to Sikeston rather than be located through Cape Girardeau. However, I find it even more difficult to believe that these supposedly intelligent individuals would support Hopper Rd. as an exit on the interstate rather than improved highways for the Port Authority and the airport, which are two of the largest capital expendures ever in the Cape Girardeau area. These attacks by Peter Kinder and the newspaper as well as others do little to help Cape Girardeau and do much to damage our community and its reputation in the eyes of the entire region. Thank you.

I HAVE TWO questions that I would like to have answers to. Number one, how many paid holidays do the county and state employees get in a year, and number two, if the government employees, county, state or whatever, shut down for the predicted earthquake, will they have to make it up or will that be just another paid holiday? Thank you.

WITH ALL THE fear and hysteria about the earthquake, it has brought to mind that in the late '70s or early '80s, when the tornado warning signal was installed and malfunctioned, our city fathers have never replaced it. Of course, a tornado warning doesn't send people on a buying spree for things to protect themselves. Why has the idea of installing the warning signal been forgotten? I'd appreciate an answer on that.

OVER THE PAST few months the Southeast Missourian has made numerous references to Woodland Hills Subdivision, which is really Woodland Hills Estate. I think if you'll check the original plat from the original developer, Leonard Lowes, you will find out that Woodland Hills Subidvision has such streets as Woodland Hills Drive, Meyer Drive, and Anthony. Woodland Hills Estate has such streets as Kenneth, Kent, Timothy Circle and others. Thank you.
