I SAW AN ARTICLE in the Friday's Standard at Sikeston by a Mrs. Randol on the Giboney Cemetery being destroyed at Scott City which it is one of the oldest cemeteries in Scott County. I think it would be interesting if the paper would run the article. I think somebody ought to look into the destruction and the removal of those tombstones especially since they're going to build houses on the oldest cemetery in Scott County.
I WAS QUITE interested in finding out a little bit about the history of the American White Cross Laboratories in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I have a WW II first aid kit and a lot of the accessories in this kit are marked American White Cross Laboratories. I'd like to have a little bit of information. Thank you.
WHAT IS THE status of the illiteracy effort in this area? I am not asking about vo-tech's GED program. Are we reaching adults and dropouts who can't read or write efficiently well to make it in today's society? Reports a couple of years ago indicated a great need in this area. What is being done to reach those who need help? If I wanted help, where would I go? Do we have enough volunteers for the one on one help for those who need and want help?
I JUST HEARD something on the radio a few minutes ago. UE said if you just add $1 to your utility bill it might help somebody out. If UE would just drop the rates it'd help a lot of people out. I can't see paying an extra $1 to help someone lay on Welfare and not get off their butt and go to work. I don't intend to give an extra $1. I intend to try and pay my own bills. I do well enough to pay my own utility bill. Thank you.
