THE PEOPLE SHOULD know why we're in this Desert Shield war. We should have told Hussein how we felt on this issue. We gave him the wrong impression. You see, we messed up again. We say one thing and do something else. Why didn't Congress stop Bush from getting into this? They had to know that we actually mislead Hussein. I don't know how long we can go on blundering around. There will be one blunder too many one of these days.

I AM SO tired of John Major of Great Britain urging the United States to fight in the Persian Gulf. There are fewer than 35,000 British troops there. This is the so-called multination force. If he wants to fight, let him send troops and, or money.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION for the city administration. If they are serious about recycling, why don't they have more than one location to deposit your recyclables, or, better still, make a once-a-week pickup over the city? I'm sure they could spare the time and personnel for this. I just finished burning about 200 pounds of newspaper in my backyard and will continue to do so, as I don't intend to run all the way across town to get rid of them. I guess I hauled a ton or more to the VIP and would do so yet with a collection station in the south end of town. Thank you.

I'M 12 YEARS old and I'd like to say that I don't like the way KBSI-TV channel 23 has taken off the show "Small Wonder." I really liked that show and I don't think they should have taken it off. Thank you.

I JUST SAW on TV where Judge Calvin raised the fines around Cape. It's funny to me. It won't bother him because you never see a judge's or lawyer's name in the paper for DWI or anything else because, if they get stopped they're turned loose. They don't have to worry about paying fines. I don't think that's fair.

If you are saying this newspaper withholds from publication the names of any judge or lawyer charged with drunken driving, you are wrong. Their names, like those of anyone else so charged by city police, who prepare a daily crime summary provided to the news media, are reported in this newspaper.

I WOULD LIKE to ask KFVS if there isn't some way that they can bring that wonderful program, "The People's Court," back at a decent time. It used to be on about 4 every day. I have missed it and I imagine hundreds are the same as I am. Now they have it on at 5:30 of a morning. I would like to ask them, how do they expect anyone to be up at 5:30 in the morning to watch a show? Thank you.

SOME YEARS BACK, under the Eisenhower administration, a re-election campaign statement was prosperity without war. Well, this administration apparently manages to have war with recession. Congratulations, George, you and your buddy Cheney sure managed to do it: lose defense contracts, plus we're in danger of risking our lives for oil companies. We've got to hand it to you. I only hope the people wise up in the next election. Thank you.

BE VERY CAREFUL what kind of fertilizer you use to melt your ice. A shop here in Cape sold me some ammonia nitrate for an ice-melter. It did not melt one thing but is absolutely ruined my steps.

HERE AT SCOTT City I'd like to see the dog catcher make his round of a morning and of a evening in the old Illmo addition. Let's see if he can't get some of these loose dogs running around. Thank you.

I'M CALLING ON the thing about Judge Ed Calvin raising the city fines. I thought the city would have to ok these fines before a judge could raise them. Thank you.

City Attorney Warren Wells said the municipal judge has authority to raise city court fines based on a fine schedule that's outlined in a city ordinance. He said the schedule includes a range of minimum and maximum fines, which Calvin's new fines fall within. He said the City Council is not required to approve the increases.

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND why the ministerial associations across the country put up with televangelists having these programs on TV where they beg and wheedle and threaten people in order to get money out of them. We have our own churches in our community and in most other communities. Our money should more logically be spent in support of our churches and our ministers. But our ministers have a duty too, and that is to lead the campaign against these greedy, crying, hording televangelists. Their only concern is how much money they can accumulate. They care not for our souls or our bodies or anything else. I think that the ministers should lead the people against these programs: attack the television stations at your church services and sit down with the managers of these stations and put a stop to their taking these funds out of these communities and misleading the people. I feel that they are all a bunch of false prophets. I want support for our local people. Thank you.
