THIS IS TO you who called in about her grandmother and grandsons. First, you don't read well. Go back and read what she said. Second, you are an example of what our God-given country has changed into: crimes, drugs, crooked politicians in the judiciary system, savings-and-loan failures, to name a few. Grandma sounds like a Christian you devil worshipers hate.

I'M A CONCERNED Central student. I'm a senior this year, and I am really disappointed in the lack of school spirit this year. I'd like to tell the class of '92 to wake up and have a good time and be yourself.

I WANT TO THANK the bag boy for getting my purse I left in the shopping cart at Schnucks. I was so upset. I thought I had really lost it. I just want to thank the boy. I live in Scott City. So, thank you.

PRESIDENT BUSH SIGNED the bill to extend unemployment payments for six months. He refused to make these payments because of the following reason: Bush signed the budget with a tax increase providing Congress would put a cap on spending over the budget. All Congress needs to do is find the money by eliminating wasteful, unnecessary programs; then Bush will pay the extra six months. There was money in the unemployment fund. They have already spent this fund. I hope Congress finds the money to pay the extended unemployment. Also, I hope they don't touch Social Security. With this type of politics you can see why people don't trust the government. You unemployed, write your congressman and President Bush. Thank you.

I WAS AT the Central-Caruthersville game tonight and I was appalled at the lack of school spirit. I'd like to tell the class of '92 to wake up and share that spirit and show that we are proud of our school and the Central Tigers. Let's not be ashamed. Let's show our spirit.

THERE'S A RADIO station in town that's running a commercial for a restaurant in town, and when the man says the word tortillas, he mispronounces it. The double-l is a separate consonant in the Spanish language. I have five years of Spanish, and I just can't stand to hear him say tortillas. Please, please, please, change the commercial.

I AM SICK of Garth Brooks. Thank you.

FOR ALL HIS friends who wanted to know, here's Matthew Anders address: Pvt. Matthew Anders 493664099, PLT. 3086M Co., 3rd RTBN MCRD, San Diego, Ca. 92140. I know he'd be happy to hear from his friends. Thanks.

APPARENTLY SOMEONE EXPECTS a state university to assume a position based upon religious convictions in determining whether a campus organization should or should not be officially recognized. The gay and lesbian association has been a beneficial, effective, organization for the past five years. Meetings are held with serious purposes and members strive to meet the campus needs of student gays and lesbians. Should the university cater to the biases of those opposed to use of their student fees to fund GLSA because of offense to religious feelings? Is a state university not an arm of state government? Is there not a separation of church and state at Southeast Missouri? Thank you.

HUMMINGBIRDS DO NOT hitch rides south on the backs of geese and ducks. How would they coordinate their schedules? Seriously, I spoke with a representative of the Audubon Society and the ride-hitching idea is pure bunk.

I WOULD CERTAINLY hope that the people taking the nuclear weapons off line are making the right choice. I am concerned with the way this country is headed. For one, I do not trust those Russians; they would bury us with one shot. I do not trust these people for the simple reason they were our enemies for so many years, and now we are winding up feeding these people. I think the politicians should stop and think twice before doing away with so many arms. We do have to protect our own; nobody else is going to do it for us as we do for other countries. Thank you.

IN SPEAK OUT on Sunday you had the two people that remodeled the old Van Matre Buick building. You had one person wrong. It was George Bockhorst Jr., not George Buckworth Jr. I agree with the people, the remodeling job was outstanding.

I AM CONCERNED with the city's recycling program as to the only once-a-week garbage pickup. I recycle everything in my home that is recyclable by taking it to the recycling center on Broadview Street. This we do once a month. We recycle glass, all plastic bottles that are recyclable and our newspapers. We are only required to do this about once a month because this is all we have in a month's period. So I feel we are going to be cut to one garbage pickup a week, and this is unfair as we are paying a price for this. I am concerned about this once-a-week garbage pickup because, where am I going to keep all my garbage until the next Monday? I don't think the city is going at this in the right direction because I don't feel they will need a recycling pickup once a week; more likely once a month would be sufficient. I don't believe too many people are going to recycle at the curb. I do not mind taking my recyclables out to the recycling center. Thank you very much.

AS THEY SAY, don't knock it until you try it. I suggest that we accept this attitude relating to the startup of the new recycling program. Following sufficient time for evaluation, I feel our city government will make the necessary changes if this new project is not acceptable to the mass majority of our residents. However, I do have one concern and this involves the large dumpsters that many of our commercial establishments rent from the city or other outside firms. How will this trash be separated for recycling? Thank you very much.

CAPE GIRARDEAU is no exception to the tacit rule that every town has at least one or had one; that is, every community has an individual who gives so much of him or herself that the inspiration perpetuates the spirit of actively caring long after the individual is gone. Whether Cape Girardeau's Leo Robertson was the spirit's instigator or just a caretaker makes no difference to me as I strive to keep the sense of responsibility that he impressed upon me, a 7-year-old, almost 20 years ago. I hope that I and my peers instigate as well while it is our turn to be a caretaker of the sense of actively caring. Than you, Leo Robertson.
