I AGREE 100 percent with the caller regarding discontinuing of throwing candy from the floats. It is really aggravating trying to watch a parade with kids pushing and shoving and knocking each other down, mostly with the little tykes getting the worst end of it. It isn't as if most of the kids in this day and time will eat most of the candy anyway. I have a suggestion that may help. Let everyone withy candy to throw put it on the float with Santa at the end of the parade or have a bunch of his elves at the end. This would probably simplify the whole problem, and maybe this way all the little ones might get a piece.
A CALLER asked when we were going to stop throwing money away at the airport. I would like to know when we are going to stop trying to cure the symptoms and try to cure the disease instead. The airport apparently has been he victim of ineffective management plus no marketing or promotion of any kind for almost a year now. Any businessman knows you cannot run a successful business if you don't believe in your product and you don't try to market it. The airport could be a winner if it was treated like one and was run in a positive, businesslike manner.
I WANT to comment about the war we're now in with Serbia. I suggest that we begin to plan for a Serbian war memorial like the Vietnam wall, but this time I think it should really be a little bigger. The casualties are going to be higher. And what we should do is put on one side the boys and girls who died and on the other side put the people's names who supported Clinton on there. We already know who is responsible for putting us in a war like. Everybody should stand up and take responsibility for what he did.
HERE'S MY suggestion to end the Bosnian war. Every American family should send a bunch of Christmas lights over that's got one light out that doesn't work until you get them all corrected and all tangled up. It will take them 20 years to get the darn bulbs straightened out and the wires straightened out. There won't be any time for fighting.
THIS IS a call in response to "Volunteer army." You ask, what are they doing in there? Whatever Slick Willie says, that's what. Wake up and smell the roses. No ifs about sending our boys to Bosnia. They're already over there, not sitting on their cans living off the government.
IF YOU'RE feeling lonely or down in the dumps around the holiday season, why not call one of the local public schools and ask for information about their holiday Christmas concert schedules. This might be a way for you to be entertained for free and it can also lift your spirits. Have a happy holiday season.
IN REGARDS to Clinton wanting to send troops in: They're all so concerned about the lives of our troops under this president, but under Bush they were all for it. What's the difference? It could cause bloodshed regardless of party. It doesn't make it less right because a Republican sends them in or no less wrong because a Democrat sends them. Let's be fair. I'm certainly for the president, and I think we should back him up. Apparently, Sen. Dole seems to think that he's pretty well got a good idea because he said he'd back him up. Let's forget about what the man did 25 years ago. He's president. Let's back him up. If we don't like what he does, let's get a new leader in '96.
SO THE Republicans are trying to cut the budget so the country doesn't go bankrupt. And what happens? They cut the money paid for the Cape airport tower and the welfare to TWE. And the city starts crying like a bunch of big babies. Who needs the Cape airport? Only the rich can afford to fly out of Cape. Common people like me drive to St. Louis. Now I see they have talked the state about making up the loss. I thought the highway department had their own problems in getting enough money for highway projects which they should be concerned about. Maybe all these people on committees and commissions should try to get on with their own lives and let smarter people serve in their places. P.S. I do not need any stupid comments from the editor or the Missourian if you print this.
WE HAVE been sold out again. Those gods who were appointed to the Missouri Gaming Commission have decided that those money-grabbing riverboat gamblers don't have to cruise the river, which is what I think we voted on when we voted for riverboat gambling. Why don't our state senators and representatives check this out and take action?
AFTER A drunk driver takes one life, it would seem the last thing he would do is get out and drive drunk again.
