FINALLY, I was wondering if I was the only person, besides Cal Thomas of course, was concerned about the platform adopted by the NEA at their annual meeting this summer. In my opinion, the NEA has lost it's way. It's become a liberal organization that promote special interests at the expense of the majority. These interests seem to range far beyond promoting excellence in education for our children. Having been instrumental in removing almost every hint of religion from our public schools, they now plan to abolish Thanksgiving because of it's religious meaning, totally disregarding the historical significance of the event. The same group has adopted a resolution to teach homosexuality as a viable family lifestyle and promoting homosexuality awareness moth throughout our schools. They deal with 13 or 14 sexual orientation issues, many of which are equally disturbing to me and I'm sure the majority of taxpayers of this country. These people are no longer speaking for the taxpaying majority. They have their own liberal agenda. Something needs to be done. Parents need to show their disapproval and protest this outrageous platform.
I SAY to the person that calls in and says the people who need to Social Security disability, the people who need Medicaid or welfare. Well, who appointed them judge and jury? I think that they ought to look at the real facts. Because they see somebody in their back yard drinking a can of beer, that certainly does not mean that they should not be on Social Security disability or Medicaid. Incidentally, there's doctors that recommend to drink a can of beer once in a while, that has heart problems and all that, for the blood flow. And because the a person does a little leaf raking, maybe he's suffering arthritis, to keep his joints moving. That does not mean he's not entitled to Social Security. In fact, doctors encourage arthritis people and people to try to stay a little active so they won't die before their time. So I think they'd better find out the facts before they go judging. They better looking in their own closets because no one set them up for judge and jury and executioner. Social Security disability is a program, the person paid into it. Matter of fact, most people, I think 90 percent that are welfare, they'll find out that they paid into it too. So I think they'd better stop judging.
BY CUTTING Medicare and Medicaid, only younger people under 62 will lose more than the ones that are collecting it right now. Get welfare out of Social Security.
TO THE young man who was blocking my lane of traffic on Themis while he talked to a young lady in a parked car. You were on the wrong side of the street in my lane. I had the right of way. If I had gone around as you indicated, I would have been on the wrong side of the street. I could not see over the rise in the street and if there had been an accident, I would have been at fault. It does not matter to me that you were black. I would have honked at anybody, male or female, black, white, or a purple alien from outer space. Common courtesy should tell you or anybody else that if you are wanting to talk to somebody, you park your car properly and go talk. You do not block a public street. I'm sure your mother taught you differently.
WHAT AN excellent picture you have on the front page of Saturday's paper, the two horses with the fall foliage in the background. Good work, give us some more.
IT'S A good idea before you discard your old telephone book to tear out the page that has both St. Francis and Southeast Hospital on it and tape it to the inside of your cabinet door. You never know when you'll need it.
THE FEDERAL building should be built along Broadway. The city council has been griping and just talking and no action on the old Marquette Hotel. This is their chance without doing hard work on their part. Let's get rid of the old hotel.
