Thanks for coupons

I JUST wanted to say thanks for all the coupons in Sunday's paper. I hope it will continue.

Nitpicking, not service

SPEAKING OF missing the point. Maybe someone can let Amy Randol know that service to your community school means doing something for the students instead of spending time nitpicking the superintendent's private life. Perhaps Mrs. Randol can dedicate herself to the betterment of the school district with the same passion that she used to berate Cape school administrators.

REPLY: For several years Amy Randol has volunteered her time on a regular basis throughout the school year at one of the district's schools.

More turmoil

ONCE again I read on the front page of the paper that Neyland Clark has done as he sees fit. If students were graded in the same manner that Clark should be graded, they would all be getting F's. In the past, he couldn't follow directions in turning in expense money. Now he can't inform the school board that he is teaching classes at the university. It clearly states that he was to inform them not after the fact but before the act. Once again, he is caught up in turmoil and controversy in our community. It is time for change.

Poor taste

I WOULD like to make a comment about the SEMO District Fair parade. At this time of year, I think it should be a lighthearted thing for all Southeast Missouri people to attend. I thought one of the floats was in very bad taste. We have lots of children. I am a teacher in the Cape school district. My small students were confused why this bloody man was in the parade. I am not against religious functions. But I just think it was in very poor taste for this type of parade when they are supposed to be having fun.

Good Samaritans

ON SEPT. 6, I experienced not one but two flat tires on my three-month-old vehicle on Highway 74. These flats did not happen at the same time. Please let me thank the good Samaritans who stopped, offered me rides, the use of a second spare, use of their car phones and actually changed my tires. Johnny Brown, Ron Bollinger, another two gentlemen from Missouri State Highway Department, three ladies in a green car, Mrs. Moss from Dutchtown, Bruce Sheeter, my husband, Bob, sister-in-law Sherry, and brother-in-law Ronnie. Needless to say when the second flat occurred, I felt like it just wasn't my lucky day. But after all the good will shown to me, I realized indeed it was my lucky day.

Funeral courtesy

I ATTENDED the funeral of my brother-in-law last week. As we were leaving the funeral home from Cape for him to be buried in Jackson, I wondered to myself what happened to the common courtesy to pull over for a funeral procession. Whatever happened to people who, when you are coming down a four-lane highway, want to pass the funeral possession and even get in front of the hearse? Respect just seems like it has gone right out the window. I was saddened by this event.

More about Cal

I AGREE with the comment under the heading "It was Cal's day." I don't believe a man with the character of Bill Clinton should be in the same stadium with Cal Ripkin. When I was watching "Nightline" coverage of his achievement, they went to a commercial about halfway through and indicated they were going to interview Bill and Al. When they came back on, I turned the set off. I thought it was quite humorous the next morning when I ran into a friend of mine at the coffee shop and we talked about watching "Nightline." He too turned off his set when they went to interview Bill Clinton. There are a lot of us who don't think he should be in the same arena with a man of the caliber of Cal Ripkin.

Part-time work

I SEE where Dr. Clark has decided his $105,000 a year from the school board is not enough. Now he only wants to work only part-time so he can work another part-time job at the university. How long is this town going to put up with this man's shananigans? I think it is time we made a planned effort to get rid of this problem before it gets worse, though I don't see how it could get any worse.
