I TOTALLY agree with Mayor Spradling's idea of doing the reworking the roads that he talked about in the paper. But I totally disapprove of the way that he wants to pay for them. No. 1, we don't need any more tax increases, and No. 2, it will never pass. I suggest taking the money that we are going to receive from the gaming companies to do this work.
I WAS very interested to see your banner headline featuring the budget figures. I wondered just out of curiosity if perhaps when Reagan was president you used the same type banner, or if this is just another subtle type of Clinton bashing?
REGARDING Rubber Stamp Willie. I mean Bill Emerson. If you are in the upper class or if you are a strong conservative Republican, he would have a splendid record in your way of thinking. No. 1, rubber stamp Bill voted against the medical bill for women with children, and he also voted against the national health care bill. If you are a person of the working poor that has no insurance, that should send you up in arms. I've called Rubber Stamp Bill's office, and he won't say whether he is for the minimum wage or against the minimum wage bill.
YOU GOOD Republicans who voted last year, you wanted the government off your back. One thing for sure, the government is off the Federal Reserve Board's back. It's your can of peas, you conservatives, you self-righteous people, and I only hope that you just might choke on it.
I WOULD like to comment on the city public works department not using logic or any common sense again. Barricades were set up just prior to the snow storm at the corner of Silver Springs and Bloomfield Road. They did no construction work, this is the second day that the barricade barrels have been up and they still have not done any work and they have created a traffic hazard for the Community Counseling Center parking lot people and traffic in general. Why don't they wait till they go to work to set up barricades?.
CAPE GIRARDEAU's city council should wake up and do its homework. The Scott City council is awake. Take an example from your neighboring city.
RAISE THE minimum wage to seven or eight dollars. This would get a lot of people off of welfare. The kids who work now for minimum wage spend it all on themselves just for their own pleasure.
SEMO UNIVERSITY, I wish you were back into Division II sports.
THE GOVERNMENT gives more and more of the taxpayers' money away to other countries. We need that money here very much in the United States.
THERE WAS a Speak Out caller who suggested making a list of all of the deadbeat dads. How about all of the deadbeat moms that are out there? Let's list them, and we would have just as many.
