DON'T BELIEVE the feminist demand for independence. In fact, the feminists who proclaim liberation from men always run to big government for replacement. Feminism is incompatible with common sense. The rejection of the family flies in the face of all human experience. Feminism is no substitute for traditional marriage. Liberation is no substitute for fidelity. Political correctness is no substitute for chivalry., Careers are no substitutes for children and grandchildren. Feminism is incompatible with human nature. The premise of the feminist is God goofed in making us in two different sexes and our laws should remedy his mistakes. They've taken on an impossible task in trying to change human nature and the eternal difference between men and women.
I'M CALLING is support of Mary Kasten's provision to have a family court judge in Cape Girardeau County and in the city of Cape. There's a great need for this kind of training for a judge. We went through the court system and had a really negative experience where the children suffered because the judge in 1986 didn't know a thing about children or their needs, and I believe the judges are following along party lines instead of supporting the people of Cape Girardeau. Just because Mary is a Republican doesn't mean she doesn't have a good program.
WE'VE GOT three bills that we mailed through the mail and they're lost. On our electric bill we had to pay a $4 penalty. It's just aggravating that the mail getting lost the way it has lately.
I HAVE a recipe for salt brine pickles. This is Arlyss Popp, 833-6930.
I'M GLAD at least one TV channel in the wonderful Heartland, Channel 23 Fox, has the good sense not to broadcast the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
COME ON, give us a break. Why should we hear all of this O.J. Simpson stuff? After all, he's no important than the rest of them. What's the gimmick?
WONDER, do Dan Rather and all the other news commentators think we, the American public, can't think for ourselves? We do not need or want a play-by-play account of the O.J. Simpson trial. A summary of the day's highlights would be more than sufficient. Let the courts do their thing and give us a break so we can get back to normal programming.
I'LL AGREE the mail is slow. It took 11 days for me to get a statement, and I had to apologize for paying late. I also mailed a check for a medical payment on Dec. 21 and they still haven't received it. Now I have to pay $15 to stop payment and send another check and it doesn't make me very happy. I am a senior citizen and I live on a very small income.
I JUST want to ask a question about the State of the Union speech that Clinton gave tonight. Is he stealing ideas from the Republican party the way they did the savings and loans companies down in Arkansas, or is Clinton trying to switch to the Republican party? It's just amazing. He sounded like Ronald Reagan up there, then he got to the socialist ideas. But in the first part of his speech he sounded almost like a Republican.
I THINK Cape Girardeau is in desperate need of a junior college. I'd also like to encourage high school students, if you're planning to go to college, you need to begin taking your ACT by the end of your sophomore year. A lot of times it takes more than one or two tries to get your ACT scores up high enough. So it's going to be imperative to quit waiting until the end of their senior year to start taking this test.
I READ in Speak Out someone did see the beautiful rainbow on Tuesday morning. What a beautiful sight it was. I have seen quite a few of them, but not like this one. I raised my shade and looked out. I noticed everyone looked so pink, even the houses and trees and the grass, everything around in my neighborhood. I couldn't imagine what's going on. I left my window to do something else and a few minutes later I looked out again and I saw the most beautiful bright rainbow, blue, pink and green. The rainbow came straight down from the sky to the ground. Usually they cross over the sky, but this one was so close to my house, so huge and long and so bright. It seemed it lit up the whole neighborhood. It sort of frightened me for a few minutes, I had second thoughts of the coming of our Lord, but when it did disappear, it just faded away and the dark clouds passed over it and it was gone. Well, I'll never forget this rainbow.
I HAVE been a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association for over 30 years. I officiated basketball and football for the same amount of years and believe shouting "air ball" at a basketball game is no way considered taunting or inappropriate by the Missouri State High School Activities Association or by anybody else. I believe that your control of the games is just ludicrous. Children go to basketball games not only to watch the game, but to yell and have a good time.
CHERYL CROWE from Kennett who is nominated for five Grammy awards this year is getting ready to start a concert tour of colleges. She's playing at Mizzou and Lexington, Ky. Why hasn't the Show Me Center booked her? Just because she isn't country doesn't mean she doesn't have a lot of local fans. I think the Show Me Center should get on the ball and get her booked.
REGARDING Clinton's speech: Being a strong Democrat, I really liked his speech and I think he's done a lot of good the last two years. However, I personally think he alone has caused Republicans to take over in the House and Senate and I honestly feel he will be defeated in the next election due to his push on gun control. I've always been a strong Democrat, but I will never support any cause which attempts to take any of my guns away. This is where I draw the line. He can say all the pretty words he wants, Democrat or Republican can say whatever they want but what they do in office is what counts. I think we've all been deceived before.
I WANT to thank the Missourian for publishing Jon Rust's column from Washington. They're always interesting and give us a very personal look at things that we want to know are going on in our national capital. We do appreciate his good work.
