SHOULD THE college not share some responsibility to demand civility of the students while living in a college town in a civilized nation? Is it not rude and uncivilized to have lawns littered with beer cans at college housing, students sharing loud music and parties out on porches to all within hearing distance, and students failing to respond when greeted on the sidewalks?
PRESIDENT BILL Clinton has proven that he knows how to handle the problems of this country. He has been on the right issues, and it has proven so. So stay with Bill Clinton. He will be glad you did.
WHY DOESN'T the south end of Cape Girardeau get any attention where it needs to be cleaned up? We have all kinds of vehicles on the street that aren't licensed. We have weeds in yards.
MY HUSBAND just had a great idea when it comes to the problem with parking and the widening of Broadway. Knock down the Marquette Hotel, put up an eight-story parking garage, eliminate the side parking on the streets and you'll have enough room for a turn lane. Think about it.
IN VIEW of our governor's spending programs, I believe he should be referred to as Mel Clintonhan.
I HOPE the older streets in Cape Girardeau get fixed before new additional streets are opened up.
CAPE GIRARDEAU needs new sidewalks to make walking and jogging and skating safer for Cape Girardeau citizens. Walking, running and skating in the street is very dangerous.
THIS IS in regard to the parent who commented on the Chaffee Play Day. If the parents were so concerned with how the school is run, why were they not at the PAT meeting when this was all discussed and voted on?
I JUST want to say it is so nice the way the Clippard third-grade students did a memorial in memory of Lakasha Lawrence. It was so sweet and thoughtful of them.
IT WAS brave men like Mel Carnahan who formulated our new country's beliefs when they drafted our Constitution. The very reason they all came to America was for freedom of their individual beliefs, religion, privacy and to be no longer dominated. It takes a politically brave man like Mel Carnahan to safeguard our citizens' individuality and privacy. May he long prevail.
WHEN YOU go to St. Louis you don't wait on a doctor for two or three hours sitting in the waiting room wondering what's going on. When you go to one of them, if they're 30 minutes late that's really something. They come in and apologize to you. I hope the doctors in this area will take note.
I TOO love Jay Eastlick's writing. He's one of the very best writers in the Southeast Missourian. Go Jay, go!
I APPLAUD Gov. Carnahan for vetoing the abortion counseling bill. Although I don't think counseling for a woman who is considering abortion is a bad idea. making it mandatory is absurd. The bill just didn't provide privacy or emotional protection for the women, and there was no special indication as to who will be qualified to be a counselor. Good job, Carnahan.
