I WANT to say thanks to the lady who sent my flowers for the use of my phone. You shouldn't have. I was glad to be of help.
I DON'T understand why the media keeps saying that O.J. Simpson is such a big deal. I'm 65 years old. I'd never heard of O.J. Simpson until this trial began. The only football I ever knew about or was ever interested in was the Dallas Cowboys. O.J. Simpson meant nothing to me, so I don't understand why they're making such a big deal of it.
I WOULD just like to say that the junior high music teacher at Cape Central Junior High did a great job on this year's spring concert. Unfortunately, two or three parents had to make complaints, and I just feel that those two or three parents, if they don't approve of things that go on in the school they should just take their kids out of this school because we don't want them there. I think it's unfortunate that they may no longer be having the spring concert, all because of two or three parents. I feel that the two or three parents are the ones that should be suffering, not the entire school.
I THINK that anybody who commits a crime, juvenile or adult, should be named in the paper. If a juvenile sees his name in the paper and everybody sees it, maybe it would shame him enough that he wouldn't do it, or maybe he'd get scared enough that he wouldn't do it. I think their names should go in there. To me we're supposed to have equal rights.
I'M WATCHING Rush Limbaugh's TV show, and the thought came to me that if the Republicans win the White House in 1996, Rush will be out of a job. His main topic, President Clinton, won't be there.
AN ACT of biology does not make a woman a mother, and it does not make a man a father.
A COMMENT on Sam Blackwell's article about the Oklahoma bombing. Those were some excellent thoughts, and I appreciate his positive attitude. It's a very welcome oasis in the sea of negativism.
WE HAVE freedom of speech in this country. That means you can say virtually anything without going to jail. But that doesn't mean that you rspeech has no consequences. If you say two plus two equals five, you have every right to say that, but I don't want you for my accountant. If I called my boss a stupid idiot, I probably won't be working there very long. I may not be put in jail, I have the right to say these things but there will be consequences. Likewise, Jay Eastlick has the right to his opinions in the newspaper, but if the newspaper has any credibility, it will show him he does not have the right to work at the newspaper. And the newspaper deserves better people than he.
I TOO have trouble keeping a flag on my husband's grave at Memorial Park. I solved that problem by taking a wire and wrapping it around the flowers and the flag, then fastening the wire to the chain that holds the vase. Of course, if you don't have a vase, you're at the mercy of the thieves. It seems like something could be done about this.
SAM BLACKWELL, in his April 27 column refers to talk show hosts who spew venom and hatred, mocking, dividing and conquering. Are you forgetting the mocking Dan Quayle went through as vice president and not from talk show hosts, but from our national media. And you say talk show hosts easily accepted credit for the Republican landslide in November. What talk shows are you listening to, Mr. Blackwell? I happen to listen to Mr. Limbaugh, and never have I heard him take credit for the election results. May I suggest you sit down and contemplate the last sentence in your column. Are you ready to accept ideas and beliefs different than your own? From the tone of your column, I think not.
