AREN'T YOU all just sick to death with politics and politicians? I am. That's why I am going to vote for a non-political figure come this November. His name is Steve Forbes. I know he's a great businessman and doesn't know anything about politics, and that is precisely why I'm going to vote for Steve Forbes.
BEFORE THE election in 1992, Gov. Mel Carnahan made promises about no tax increases without voter approval. However, with Senate Bill 380, which is a phony bill, he ran through the biggest tax increase Missouri has had and hoped the voters would forget. Now in 1996, he's offering quarter-cent decrease in sales taxes. I think he is looking forward to the election in November 1996. I hope the voters remember all of this.
KUDOS TO Terry Taylor. He has the right idea about disbanding the school foundation. These people are the same former board members who were the cause of the all the trouble before. They couldn't get their way then, so now they're bent on having the last say any way they can. Get rid of them. If we don't, it's just trouble waiting to happen.
I THINK it's terrible when you open up your newspaper and you see someone call the first lady of our country a born liar. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, but I respect a person by who she is or who he is. I think she does a lot of good around this country. I think she helps a lot of people and children, and I think it's terrible that someone would just come out and say that she is a born liar. Nobody on this earth is a born liar.
WE CAN understand why Governor Carnahan is wanting to cut the state sales tax. That is the best vote-getter that there is around. He is playing politics by bringing up this suggestion at this time.
I'D LIKE to give a big shout out to Marc Powers, everybody's brother. What a great column in the Jan. 17 paper. He hit the nail right on the head. It's no secret we need new groups here. And it's a proven fact that country doesn't sell. Tracy Lawrence and Lorrie Morgan, two of top country's acts, both canceled within a week of their tour. Good job, Marc. Keep covering it, and maybe we'll get some good groups.
I WOULD like to make a comment about Bill Clinton being broke. If he's broke, why don't he and his wife do what they did five months after the election: hold a bake sale. Remember? To pay off the deficit, they were having kids send in money. What happened to this money?
I'M A 80-year-old man. I remember Roosevelt. I remember all the old Democrats, but let me tell you something folks. This new breed is not true Democrats. The Republicans are more like the old Democrats than these new Democrats are. These new Democrats are arrogant, wearing the big white hats, hollering they're for the poor then take from the poor. If Harry Truman was living, he'd want to drop Slick Willie's pants and give him a good thrashing because he is not dry behind the ears. He taxed Arkansas, and they're broke now. They're begging for money to fix the highways with. People bet wake up. Put a good Democrat in. This is not a Democrat we've got. He's socialist.
