HOUSE MAJORITY Leader Dick Armey recently stated that he and the rest of the Congressional Leadership were standing firm against the White House. He said "In Texas, we wear our boots and don't polish them often but we never polish somebody else's." Armey described the budget showdown as a great drama, a struggle over whether we make a decision against big government for the first time in 60 years. He pointed out when the federal government shut down recently, 89 percent of the Department of Education employees were deemed non-essential and 99 percent of the employees of Housing and Urban Development were non-essential. He had also learned from his boyhood experiences on a farm that when you pull the pigs away from the trough, they squeal loudly. Well, I'm here to tell you if you can take 99 percent and 89 percent of the federal government are non-essential, we should get rid of them completely. Why in the world do we have them?
I THINK since CNN and all these other TV programs are running their own polls, I think it would neat for the Southeast Missourian to run its own poll, and here is the question: Which would you support, sending troops to Bosnia or balancing the budget? I'll bet you everyone who's Democrat will want to send the troops to Bosnia.
I'D LIKE to make a bet with all you people that's calling into Speak Out. I'd like to bet you that my party, the Republican Party, takes Social Security away from all the poor people, senior citizens and disabled people who paid it in. What do you bet?
BILL CLINTON is a socialist. He is very close to being a communist. Just look at what happened to Russia. Bill Clinton wants this country to go down the same road. I know what Bill Clinton is, because I am from Texarkana, Ark., 30 miles from Hope, Ark. He wants a name for himself, and he's praying that the ignorant people in this country go along with his socialistic ideas.
I BELIEVE in party loyalty, but give me a break. What can be going through these Democrats' minds when they continue to support the Clintons? The president and his wife are the main reasons the Democratic Party is in decline. Had anybody else been president, the Democrats would still be in control of Congress. Yet these loyal Democrats blindly follow their worst enemy. Don't they realize that if Clinton is re-elected what's left of their beloved party will go right down the drain?
I WOULD like to ask Congressman Emerson: What about a health care plan? You told me in the letter before the Republican Party took over the Congress that you were definitely for a health care plan, but you did not like the president's health care plan. Now you seem to have changed your tone after your party took power. The country still needs a health care plan. There are people who are working and not on welfare, but they cannot afford insurance. I think you should keep your promise to me.
I HAVE a complaint. I think it's time for a new law. Parents should be fined for crimes their children commit. Having recently being a victim juvenile crime, I know that the time is now for parents of those juvenile delinquents to be responsible for what type of individuals they have raised. Yes, I am also a parent.
MR. PRESIDENT, instead of sending troops to Bosnia, why not secure peace here in the U.S. so people can be safe walking on the streets again?
