Plans for vo-tech building

Stay in gear on ice

I WOULD have to disagree with the person who advised motorists to shift into neutral on slippery roads. My father gave me this advice several years ago. He's usually right about anything to do with cars and driving. However, when I shifted into neutral, my car went totally out of control on the ice, immediately turned a right-angle left turn and into another car. So I would have to disagree with this advice and advise people to use caution and to drive more slowly.

Thanks for the gift basket

I AM calling in to thank for the lovely Christmas basket we got (through Christmas for the Elderly).

Reasons for small type

ALL OF you people who are against federal regulation should understand that if the government would have made the type size a requirement for phone books, you wouldn't have all this griping. Sometimes the laws are made for your benefit. Don't you understand this? Just because you don't want regulation, that means you've got to get your magnifying glass to read your phone books. Because some profit-maximizing executive doesn't give a damn about you. He's trying to maximize profits so he can be a big hero to his stock holders. Don't you understand this?

Good job on old home

THANK YOU for the wonderful article about the McClure home. Charles and Brenda Webb are friends, and we have been impressed by their commitment to historical preservation as well as their sense humor. I have to offer the Webbs and David Angier and Lou Peukert my compliments for the great story and pictures. Keep up the great work, Missourian.

Stop trashing Clinton

PETER KINDER, we put you in office to do a job, and as taxpayers we are paying you to do that job. So stop trashing Clinton and do your job or give Newt Gingrich equal on your "S" list.

Let users pay

SUBJECT: airport control tower. The City Council should listen to the citizens of Cape. The citizens agree with the federal government to stop funding the airport control tower. If those who use the control tower want it, then they should pay for it. The airport must stop being such a burden on all of the taxpayers. Subject: cable service. I agree with a recent caller that our city government must take some of the blame for our current cable TV problems. They awarded the contract to TCI without protecting the public from bad service and excessive price increases. Now the City Council should help find a way to correct the problem.

Non-denominational purpose

I WAS at a Christmas program at St. Vincent's Middle School and there was a comment in the play that Jesus Christ came to Earth to start the Roman Catholic Church. I believe Jesus Christ came to Earth to save man from hell and was not really interested in denominations.

Please drive safely

AS WE celebrate the holidays, the birth of Jesus Christ and the New Year, I'd like to remind everybody to please drive safely and to remember those that gave their lives in accidents over the weekend.

Santa Express was beautiful

I JUST wanted to say how beautiful the train was, the Santa Express, that Burlington Northern put through Cape Girardeau and the other surrounding railroad towns. I'm surprised no one else said anything about it. I meant to but never got it done. But I just want to say it was beautiful and a lot of people really enjoyed the singing and everything.
