Better radio programming

ON THE way to work I switched on my car radio expecting to hear some music, but instead I came across a very offensive program on one of our local stations. It was a talk program, but it played a very offensive requested "song." I was shocked to hear such trash coming from a local station at this time of the morning when parents are taking children to school and others are on their way to work. I will not give credence to which station this was because it would encourage our young people to want to hear what it's all about. However, I will not listen to this station again. I'm sure this is not what the radio station managers want to hear, but if others feel the same way as I do, maybe they will have to clean up the air waves so we can all listen and buy their products, which is the main purpose anyway. I would also like to compliment the college radio station on its early-morning interesting in-depth programming. At least one station is doing a service in this area. We need other stations to follow their example.

If the crime fits ...

IF DENYING same-sex marriages is discrimination, then so is denying a murderer who is in prison the right to his freedom.

Keeping up in the world

WHO NEEDS a computer if you have common sense and you keep up with what's going on in the world?

Watch out for hidden bombs

EVERY COUNTRY in the world believes in its own culture. Has it ever occurred to you that the Japanese can build automobiles, plant bombs in those automobiles and sell them to the United States of America? The same thing applies to every other country in this world. That's why we are so stupid to allow anything to be built that we use anywhere.

Martian rocks and God

RECENTLY SOME scientists found a little black rock in the snow in the middle of the vast Antarctica tundra. The rock had tiny ridges on it, so tiny that 15,000 could fit on the width of a human hair. The ridges looked like bacteria excrement. So the scientists deduced that this rock must have come from Mars and that there is life on Mars. See, there was this explosion over 160 million years ago, and this rock just floated in space from that explosion, all that time being pulled toward the sun's gravitational force. Then, 13,000 years ago, the rocks started coming our way, and behold there it was sitting on the ice. The scientist had just discovered Martian life. And these are the people who find it difficult to believe in an almighty God?

Bring back the mascots

I WOULD like to speak out to the SEMO University president with regard to the mascot. I think you should bring back the Indian chief and princess. I remember watching football games in Houck Stadium, and the spotlight would shine on the hill and there would be the chief and princess overlooking the football field in regal serenity. That mascot has class, and I think it would bring back that SEMO pride that seems to be somewhat subdued these days. You might also try lowering prices on your SEMO products. No one can afford to show SEMO pride at those prices.

IQ and welfare

ASSUMING THAT he knows that he is doing, shame on Peter Kinder for lying with statistics. For example, he stated "The CBO study found increasing the length of time a child spends on welfare may reduce the child's IQ by as much as 20 percent." What the study probably said was that there was a correlation between the two. That does not mean welfare causes low IQ. An equally plausible explanation is that a low IQ causes people to be on welfare.

IN REGARD to the TCI announcement of removing WGN from our cable system. May I suggest you call the local cable office, which is most polite and will take your name, log it and then forward it to the company. This is the only way we will be able to keep WGN on our cable system. Please call the local cable system and voice your opinion.
