THE STORY of the log house on south Frederick was interesting. I think it would be a great idea if they could save the log house, remove the logs and transfer them to the new Washington Park near the Old Lorimier Cemetery and rebuild the log house. That would remind our younger generation and visitors of our past history. Save the logs.
IF TEXACO is guilty of racial discrimination, our justice system will ensure that Texaco will suffer the consequences. We don't need Jesse Jackson and Al Sharkton calling for boycotts and demonstrations. These so-called black leaders promote racial divisiveness. They know that if racial harmony existed, they would be irrelevant and out of a job. It's disheartening that so many African-Americans look upon these social parasites as role models while absolutely hating successful African-Americans such as Clarence Thomas or Colin Powell simply because they are proof that opportunities exist for all races. No matter how inconvenient, I intend to buy Texaco products exclusively.
CRITICS MIGHT take into consideration that the president of the United States or the mayor of a city makes decisions after conferring with Cabinet members and experts in that particular field. It is not arbitrary but a considered decision with advice.
DESPERATELY NEEDED in Scott City: A more centrally located post office.
I CALLED before about the newspaper angels that put my paper at my front door every day. Now I have two more angels who have raked all of my leaves for me. Bordeaux Drive and LaPetite is full of angels, and I appreciate them very much and I wish them a very happy Thanksgiving.
I JUST signed up for the AARP membership and insurance for myself and my husband. I called them to see why no word from them. They informed me my husband's medications were so expensive they denied us coverage. I said, sure, that's the objective of AARP: to help 65 and older people. They informed me if they took us on their policy they would upset their profit. In other words, this company doesn't do what it brags about doing.
I WANT to offer my congratulations to the person who is furious and outraged that the Missourian printed David Brinkley's two salty words. It was clever of that reader to get the words printed again. I agree that David Brinkley was a good journalist, not a news reader.
I JUST read in this morning's paper that SEMO now has parking meters behind Academic Hall. SEMO tries to get the students anyway it can. I'm a student at SEMO. I work on campus, and now I can't even park in my own parking lot to go to work because I get ticketed. I have to park at least three blocks away to get to class every day. The parking up there is horrible, and I just want to say that they're out to get the students and to make any money they can.
I PURCHASED a roll of stamps at post office, $32 for 100 stamps. The first three or four would not stick to the envelope. The glue was defective. I took them back to the post office. They wouldn't take them back, and they wouldn't exchange them for a roll that works. They put three or four stamps on my envelopes, and they stuck. The next day, I got a couple of them back because of no stamps. They still would not exchange my stamps. So every time I use one of my hundred stamps I have to put on the back of it some kind of sticky stuff or tape. Now this is our post office. Thanks a lot for nothing.
HATS OFF to President Clinton for sending troops over to Zaire. If Bob Dole had been elected, you can be sure he would not have sent one officer to help with anything humanitarian. Although we're in Bosnia and all the other countries, the Republicans have always shown they never do anything to help any African countries. Thank you again, President Clinton. Thank you for being a Christian.
IT IS just like America: fight, fight, fight. They think that solves everything. Just like the violence in St. Petersburg. Violence only creates more havoc and more trouble. Why can't we sit down with one another and discuss it instead of fighting and killing and destroying other people's property. Why can't we all just get along?
ANOTHER near miss at Sprigg and Bertling. I wish they would put a four-way stop there. What is the city of Cape Girardeau thinking about? If there's not a four-way stop there, why in the world is there a four-way stop at Old Sprigg and Lexington? No one drives on Old Sprigg, and everyone drives on Lexington. Come on, city council, get off your duff.
THANKS TO the honest man who found my purse and the lady behind the counter for keeping it for me in McDonald's Restaurant in Wal-Mart. We still have honest people around.
