I WISH the Cape Girardeau School Board would do away with tenure and give out three-year or four-year contracts instead. The superintendent doesn't have tenure in his job. The president at the college doesn't have tenure in his job. They all go under contract.
I HOPE those people who think Clinton is such a great president read in the Southeast Missourian May 28 about the $2 billion tax loss this year after Clinton vetoed the balanced-budget plan. This loss was in favor of those rich who the liberals say the Republicans favor. Clinton was too busy campaigning and telling lies to catch on. So he will have to tell another lie.
I HAVE a comment concerning the article about the sales tax for state parks and soil and water conservation. I'm more than willing to pay a tax for upkeep on state parks, but I can't imagine why taxpayers should pay for erosion control on private farms. By living in a rural area, we're very much aware of some very wealthy people who are taking advantage of this program. Maybe the public needs to be made more aware of how our tax money is being used to benefit people who could very well manage to pay for these erosion problems themselves.
I JUST read about the hiking trail from Brink to Arena Park. I have walked this trail, and there's a spot east of Rust & Martin that has mud and green algae that's pretty slick. I almost fell myself. It needs cleaned bad.
THAT OLYMPIC torch being carried through town was interesting and all, but if you really wanted to impress me, you would have let Jean Bell Mosley carry it all the way through.
I WAS wondering if it was asking too much for the trash men in Cape Girardeau, after they get done dumping our trash and abusing our trash cans, to please at least keep them out of our driveways so we can pull in our drives when we get home in the evening.
I WOULD like to thank the two girls who work at Venture for their help when I was in an automobile accident on the Venture parking lot on May 23. They picked glass out of my hair, got cold cloths for my head and held my hand and helped to keep me calm until the ambulance got there. They were truly nice people, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
KENNETH STARR is really faced with a dilemma. Does he offer Hillary immunity to testify against Bill or does he offer Bill immunity to testify against Hillary?
IN THE case of the Whitewater scandal, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are as guilty as the others by more than just association. Told you four years ago that we have two crooks in our White House. Isn't that shameful?
THIS IS in response to the older guy who thinks gays and pedophiles are the same thing. For his information, they're not. Most gay people hate pedophiles. He was probably not molested by a gay person but by a pedophile who in real life are usually married to heterosexual females and lead a very normal life. Gay people, on the other hand, don't molest children and don't like people that do.
ONE CANNOT help but contrast two pictures that were in your paper May 28. On the front page, American children are running beside the bearer of the Olympic torch. On page 4, Iranian children are dressed in military fatigues and are carrying a model rocket. No other words are necessary.
I THINK that Bill Kenney, the candidate for lieutenant governor, dealt his campaign a great blow by putting his foot in his mouth and saying that he would make the next four years for our governor miserable. I think the voters are fed up with politicians who don't want to work together. I think we should have a lieutenant governor who will work with the governor to solve the problems of Missouri instead of being part of the problems of Missouri.
I'M WONDERING why the reporter in covering the torch arrival in Cape Girardeau on Monday failed to mention the performance by Teen Challenge Choir and Freedom Celebration Choir. The only choir mentioned was the Sweet Adelines. All three groups performed and did a fine job in the rain. They sounded great, they added to the festivities and I think all three groups needed to have been mentioned. It was a really fun day for all people concerned on that day, and I congratulate Cape Girardeau on the job it did.
I THANK the caller who commented about Clinton's latest cowardly act. The comment cannot be more succinct and honest. See, folks, exposing the truth about the hypocrisy about our liberal leadership is certainly a random act of kindness. How much more arrogant, stupid and cowardly can Clinton get -- and just before Memorial Day? As a retired military veteran myself, Clinton's latest fumble at trying to hide behind the military's apron strings is well beyond simply being an insult to all active military and veterans alike. I view Clinton and his cronies not only as cowardly hypocrites and liars, but traitors as well. Thank God I'm no longer on active duty because I'd surely be court-martialed or worse for refusing to acknowledge Clinton as my commander-in-chief or even president of the United States. How can even the most extreme liberal radicals continue to proudly support such an abomination to God and country?
I JUST want to make a comment that the mayor of Jackson gave a much better speech at the Olympic torch relay celebration than the mayor of Cape Girardeau. I was really impressed with the mayor of Jackson, and I was a little disappointed with the mayor of Cape.
I WOULD like to comment on the address of Highway 72 in Jackson. It has been changed to West Jackson Boulevard, and the mail is being delayed because of the address as Highway 72 West. We have never been notified, as anybody on Highway 72 West has never been notified, that the address has been changed to West Jackson Boulevard.
DOES ANYONE hiked at Trail of Tears State Park recently? If not, skip it. The back country trails are so poorly maintained it will bring tears to your eyes. It's an embarrassment to think visitors from other states and countries hike these trails and think that this is how Missourians put their tax dollars to good use.
I WOULD like to speak out about drivers who cannot park. I know that in general most people speak out about drivers who cannot drive, but I have noticed that people's parking skills are very poor. Those yellow lines aren't there so you can center one beneath your car. You're supposed go between them. Why don't you try that, and then after you do that, when you're leaving a parking lot, try using a turn signal. What difference could it make? Could it hurt you to try to park in the spot?
