THE LAW that says a person cannot be tried twice for the same crime is in itself a miscarriage of justice. That law must be changed. When new evidence arises after the first trial, we should be able to follow it through and retry the accused. Such as O.J. Simpson, It's now too late. We know more about what really happened. That law protects both the criminal and his defense attorneys. And we all know that is not right. That is not a good law...

Double jeopardy no good

Gasoline prices

IN THE paper March 30 you show Missouri's price for unleaded regular gas at $1.08.1. Well, for the past two weeks, I have paid $1.15.9 for my gas here in Scott City. In that case, Missouri would rank third. I just wanted to call and let you know.

REPLY: The $1.08.1 price was an average for the entire state, which means some gasoline was priced higher and some was priced lower.

Where was Clinton?

SOMEONE CALLED into Speak Out and gave a list of Republican politicians as members of his chicken platoon and asked where they were during the Vietnam War. They were signed up with the draft boards and used legal deferments for education or served in the National Guard. I can tell you they weren't hiding in another country, lying to the draft boards, protesting the war, burning the flag, smoking dope, and taking vacations in our cold war enemy's capital of Moscow. I have one question: Where was Bill Clinton then?

$1 lease for airport land?

IF THE detention center is so important of Cape, why can't the city-owned tract at the airport be leased for $1 a year?

Who are these people?

THE COMPANIES that make and sell hair dye and hair color products must be very happy because I think half of the people in the United States dyes their hair. And that's probably not even counting the ones in the entertainment business. What ever happened to growing old gracefully? Some of these politicians and older people should get facelifts to go with their dyed hair, especially the ones that dye their hair coal black.
