WE SHOULD continue spending the money to get to the bottom of the illegal contributions. I purposely don't want my government bought off by another country. We spend lots of money to put criminals away to apply the death penalty. Money is no object when it comes to justice. So we should always seek justice no matter what the cost.
MY HAT'S off to Dick Gephart. He is the only one who has shown courage and voted against the deceptive balanced budget. No. 1, it is going to be knocked off by year 2002. That doesn't really help the average working man. You have to make so much a year to do you any good. Gephart is a working man's congressman. He may not be popular now, but give him four more years. They are going to curse the day they heard of that balanced budget.
THANK GOD we have a president who so far has not interfered with the collective bargaining of the UPS strike. Unlike Reagan and Bush, President Clinton understands what it is to work for a living and get as much as you can for the hourly wage. After all, that's all we workers have. God bless our president. and God bless our unions.
I AM visiting my folks from Houston, and I support the UPS drivers and the Teamsters union. It is unbelievable to me to hear people here in the Cape area say they have never been paid $9 dollars an hour. My question is how do they survive properly with this lifestyle?
A ROUND of applause and a great big thank you to our Cape Girardeau Police Department for doing its job. It is time to round up these punks, and punishment is in order. I now challenge our prosecutors and judges to also uphold our laws and to give the maximum sentence to each one involved with selling the drugs. And next month let's move the operation north and westward in our city. Let's show all who choose to illegally sell drugs that there are negative consequences to negative choices.
THERE IS a raging Speak Out debate going on about whether or not volcanoes are major contributors to something called ozone depletion. I don't really care about that. But I would like to say that I thought the movie "Volcano" was awesome. I liked it a lot better than the movie "Joe and the Volcano." I would also like to say I think Speak Out discussions about movies is a lot more interesting and important than whether or not volcanoes affect ozone depletion -- whatever that is.
THANK GOD for Harry Rediger on the Cape Girardeau Board of Education. As parents, we are extremely pleased that the board has approve additional space at both Clippard and Franklin schools. Our kindergarteners will be bused no more. Thanks also to all parents of children at Clippard School who showed their support by attending school board meetings and sending letters.
