AS MANY of you know, Harrison Ford played the role of the president in movie "Air Force One." According to Newsweek magazine, next summer Ford will portray Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan in the sequel. I don't want to second guess the movie makers, but I think that is a mistake. For that role, I think they need to recruit an actor with more charisma.
I WOULD like to beg the kid who drives the late 1970s Buick Regal on Melrose Street. Quit driving up and down every night playing his thumping stereo system.
I WOULD like to thank the nice young man who returned my purse for me in Target's parking lot.
A SPEAK out caller from Seattle recently complained that the Southeast Missourian was too right-winged. I can't prove it, but I think the Southeast Missourian took a sharp turn to the right when it heard someone was moving here from Seattle. I believe they did it to try to please you, although it backfired. You see, Southeast Missourian operatives assumed since you were from Seattle you would appreciate all that could be done so that you remained sleepless.
THE ENROLLMENT at Southeast Missouri State University here at Cape for the last few years has been going down. The enrollment should be 12,000 to 13,000 students. There is something very wrong with the leaders of the university here in Cape.
REPLY: Actually, the university had a drop in enrollment for a few years, but recently there have been modest increases. The university is working hard to attract more students.
I IMAGINE it will die for lack of a second, but still I feel obligated to present it to the court of Speak Out opinion. I hereby nominate recently deceased native Missourian and counter-culture icon William Burroughs for inclusion on Cape's Wall of Fame.
I THINK Peter Kinder's idea of giving guns to everybody is damn foolishness. I just saw where the man was shot at the cemetery and the little boy in Decatur, Ill., picked up a gun that was thrown away. Pete, you can't have a bunch of morons running around with guns. You can't have these cowboys running around without any sense.
