I CAN see why the Muslims call the U.S.A. the "great satan." Being bombed on orders from a sex pervert can qualify.
Not doing the people's work
I'D LIKE to comment on Bill Clinton and the Democrats who are claiming that they're going to go back to work and do what the American people want them to do. Where were they on school vouchers? Where were they on school prayers, partial-birth abortions, giving tax breaks for families? Where were they? They say they want to do the American people's work, but they weren't there. They were in the closet.
A grateful recipient
I DON'T know if this is the type of news you would report or not, but I'd like to tell everyone in Cape Girardeau thank you so much for the people who donated to Toybox. I have five children, and my kids wouldn't have had such a good Christmas if it hadn't been for Toybox of Cape Girardeau. So once again I just want to tell everybody thank you so much for all the love, support and caring they have for the lower-income children who cannot afford to have a lot of things at Christmas.
Sooner the better
CLINTON WON'T do the honorable thing and resign because he has no honor. That's why he's in the situation he's in now. He's dishonored our whole country but still hasn't the decency to resign. His arrogance is abominable. Bill and Hillary are only interested in power and will do and say anything to try to evade the law. They are both a disgrace to our nation. The sooner they are gone, the better to restore respect for our country.
Working man's representatives
OUR GREAT members of Congress we have in Missouri -- Skelton, Clay, McCarthy and Gephardt -- are the working man's representatives. They work hard for us, and they voted against impeaching our president, who is a working man's president. The others represent one thing: Their main boss is the Republican right-wing Christian coalition and the extreme radical right-wing politicians.
Vote against decency?
TO THE person who is calling all Democrats to vote against Jo Ann Emerson: Yes, let's vote against someone who is decent, honest and hard-working. Let's support a lying degenerate instead, and the scum groups that support the president.
Real newspaper has facts
LET'S GET the facts straight on Bob Livingston. One: He only admitted to many affairs when he heard that he was being named by Hustler magazine. Two: He decided to resign his post only after he was visited by several legislators who told that him he could no longer be supported by them. Now is this a hero? These facts were reported by a real newspaper, the Post-Dispatch.

His word is questionable
I DON'T see how Clinton can be rising in the polls when I've all but lost faith in the man. This business about us going to war with Iraq: Clinton wanted to say it was necessary to go to war at this time. Can we take his word for it? Clinton has been a liar and a cheat. We can hardly take his word for it that this was a necessary war.
We had no idea
OK, THIS Democrat has heard the call. What I want to know from the Democrats making the call is why I'm expected to support Clinton just because I voted for him. Of course I knew back then that he wasn't always on the level, but I had no idea to what extent he would drag down the office he holds. Jo Ann Emerson is speaking for the people who want to uphold American values. She's speaking for me and for everyone -- and I do mean everyone I know, and that's a lot of folks, which translates into a lot of votes. Since Mr. Clinton refuses to do the honorable thing and spare this country all the turmoil he continues to inflict, because he's more concerned with his own power than for the country he was elected to lead and represent, then we're left with no other choice but impeachment. And, for the record, I have never been unfaithful in any way, shape or form to my spouse, so help me God.
Response from a river rat
THIS IS to the metropolitan snob: My husband is a river rat and may be a redneck or a ridge runner or a knob knocker, whatever those are. We're friends with people who are rednecks, river rats and so forth, and also with the people you call "with it." Are you totally out of debt with a real nice rathole made from my river-rat husband's $340 a day? Get a life and be a river pilot -- I mean a river rat. Oh, and six months' vacation a year is nice too, Mr. Metropolitan.
A wonderful place to live
I AM calling in response to the extremely rude and obviously unhappy individual who referred to Cape residents as rednecks and river rats. He insulted our community, our citizens and our college. Well, I too have lived in metropolitan areas. I am 42 years old and have lived in Los Angeles, Chicago and even in New York for one year. When I opened the daily newspaper in those cities, I read of the many rapes, robberies and murders committed in just the past 24 hours. In Cape, I read of traffic offenses, minor crimes, and yes, now one drive-by shooting. In my former homes, I was afraid to leave my apartment at night. In Cape I go anywhere I want any time I want without fear. Two nights ago, in fact, I went to Wal-Mart a bit after midnight without any concern at all. In the metropolitan areas, I dealt daily with crude, insensitive people like this caller. In Cape, I encounter a few like him, but most everyone I meet is genuine, sincere and decent. The bottom line is that Cape has its faults, but is all in all a wonderful place to live. People such as this caller who are unhappy here need to move elsewhere. I'm sure that a person like this caller is going to be unhappy wherever he goes. Unfortunately, he carries his misery with him.
It's double jeopardy
IT WAS amusing Dr. Fox's comments concerning the attendance police and suspension at Cape Central High School. Maybe the school board should become more informed by the school lawyer about what school law states. The suspension policy states that a kid who is suspended is absent from school, but those absences don't count against the attendance policy because law says that would be double jeopardy. You could not suspend the student from school then have those days count against an attendance policy and be legal. That's double jeopardy.
The real traitors
LARRY FLYNT, the editor of these filthy porn magazines and a great advocate of the president, has elevated Clinton's sex scandal to be accepted and in America's best interest. You Democrats must be proud to have the support of this slime and other slimy groups with no values. The few Democrats who disagree with their party's low-moral views are called traitors. They haven't a chance to reclaim their party. The real traitors are those who support this.
Punishment for perjurers
IF THE Senate allows censure for Clinton, then all perjurers would have to be allowed a slap on the wrist, and the courts would have to let them go free. So there goes the law if the Senate sets this precedent for the courts. Everyone has to be treated the same, including Clinton, who is not above the law. It's too late for Clinton to tell the truth, because he has already committed the crime of lying before the grand jury. Senate, uphold our laws and convict this perjured Clinton.
