I WOULD like to comment that superintendent of schools in Cape Girardeau, Dan Tallent, really must be a financial genius. He was about $600,000 short a couple of months ago, and now they have discovered an extra million dollars. It really makes me feel comfortable with him at the helm as the financial representative for the Cape schools.
SINCE MY husband and I are retired and home all day, we sit and watch the construction on Perryville Road. A word of appreciation to the Frohnabarger Concreters Inc. workers: The workers were courteous, friendly and not once did we hear a foul word. They deserve a gold star in this day and age. Thank you.
ALLOW ME to say at the outset that I am a believer in conspiracies almost to the point of paranoia. Having said that, I hereby allege that the larger-than-expected fund balances for some area public schools were no surprise to those in on the plot. In my opinion, the gist of the conspiracy was a plot by area school leaders to create an illusion of a financial crisis so that they could more easily get rid of veteran teachers, freeze teacher salaries and eliminate unneeded courses. I want to be clear where credit is due. It was an absolutely ingenious idea.
I READ in the paper that we have had two bicycle accidents in the same number of days. When are people going to realize that bicycles are means of transportation and not a toy? Bicycles are subject to the same traffic laws and regulations as automobiles. If bicycles would stop at stop signs, ride along with the traffic and not facing the traffic and not barge in front of cars, maybe people wouldn't get hurt. People shouldn't give children a bicycle to ride without teaching them that they are means of transportation and to obey all rules, laws and regulations. And they should not be ridden on the sidewalks where they can knock old people down.
