WOULD THE city of Jackson please give notice in newspaper prior to blocking streets for block parties? I could not get through Hope Street to my home on Greensferry Road on a recent Saturday after midnight. There were cars parked everywhere and every which way. Some college or high school boy with a beer in his hand got out of a black pickup truck and told me it would be hard to get through. He said his family gets permission to have these block parties often and I should probably avoid Hope Street most evenings and weekends, at least until after the graduation party. I doubt, however, that they get city permission to drink beer in the streets and use profanity.
TO THE person who says dogs don't deserve human treatment, evidently you don't have a dog. I have five dogs, and I guarantee you I like the dogs a whole lot better than people because they don't treat you badly. Whenever you've had a bad day, they listen to all your problems, and they're happy to see you no matter what. So maybe you ought to get a dog and realize that dogs are puppy humans instead of some dog you just kick whenever you want something to beat on.
THIS IS in response to your so-called nutrition expert's warning about the dangers of vitamins and herbal supplements. Perhaps she would be interested in doing a balanced report in reporting the danger of prescription medications and the fact that they killed over 100,000 people last year. Let's compare that to the amount of people who have died or gotten sick from supplementation. Let's be fair about it, Judy. Let's report all issues.
I WAS reading in the paper where they had an accident on the interstate highway, and the police said it might have been due to the torch runners from the police department. Doesn't the police department know that the interstate is for highway traffic only, that you're not supposed to be out there running and walking on the interstate highway? They should have been out there on U.S. 61 going up that way instead of the interstate, because any time anyone sees someone like that, they slow down and distract traffic, and that caused an accident out there.
THIS EITHER an act of kindness or act of love. My son-in-law landscaped around my shrubs in front of our house. It's beautiful. Thank you, Ron.
I'D JUST like to reply on something that was in Speak Out about dogs don't deserve human treatment. I just want to say what I do with my animal is my business as long as I'm not hurting them. What you do with yours as long as you're not hurting them is your business. If people would just their noses where they belong, it wouldn't happen this way.
I THINK your Random Acts of Kindness is a wonderful idea but in the dictionary random means by chance. I don't think people who are employed deserve this award. They are getting paid to be kind. Kindness comes from the heart with no strings attached or money involved.
REPLY: Kindness should be judged on the benefit it bestows rather than the motivation. Some people exhibit kindness out of the goodness of their hearts. Others are kind because they in jobs where kindness is expected. The recipients of kindness generally aren't picky about those sort of things.
