I WANT to comment about a couple of things that were in your paper. One person called in and said that they should fire FBI director Freeh. I think he should quit. Clinton's got someone to help him with Janet Reno. She's not going to find anything that he's done illegal, because she's part of it. And the other thing, about the national debt, not to cut the taxes when the nation's in debt. Hey, it was a Democratic Congress for 60 years that did this. Reagan spent money, but it was to defeat the Soviet Union. In the long run, since we don't have to arm against them, we will save money. But your grandchildren could have grown up speaking Russian. And now, due to Reagan, we were able to defeat the evil empire.
I KNOW that it is getting very late, but I couldn't let the year go by without thanking all the wonderful people who donated their time and their efforts in order to wrap Christmas presents over the holidays and to West Park Mall for providing the service. You don't know how much it saved on time, expense and especially my sanity in order to provide the quality of Christmas that I wanted to give my family.
I HATE to say bad stuff about the county health department, but I recently went to get a HIV test. Apparently somebody there knew who I was and told somebody else who told somebody else, and by the time it got back around to me, you can probably imagine the rumors that were made up about it. I think it's wrong for people to disclose any information, especially in that type of an incident. I'd just like to see something done about it.
TO THE person wants FBI director Louis Freeh fired. History is fraught with officials who protected their leaders. The FBI director nor their attorney general is defense attorney for the president. If the FBI director feels something is wrong and amiss, then maybe there should be an investigation. The FBI director should not protect Clinton at all costs.
I'M KIND of laughing about the people who are complaining how bumpy Lexington is. Well, I'd just like to invite them to take a little drive out Perryville Road. I'd like to warn them that if they have dentures, they better use some super-adhesive Polygrip.
I SAW in the paper that the city of Cape is cutting back by closing the transfer station on Saturday, but they didn't increase the hours during the week. How are people that work 8 to 5 going to be able to use the services that they are paying taxes to use? The last time that I've been there was on Saturdays. I work 8-5 every day on the weekdays. There's no way I can get there unless it's on a Saturday. City Council, do something about this or don't expect anymore tax raises to take care of the trash, transfer station or any other city employees.
I DON'T agree with the recent caller who complains of the way "The Star Spangled Banner" is often sung. I think we all ought to be thankful that it's being sung at all.
IN ANSWER to the gentleman whose son was hit by an uninsured motorist. There is an option. I also had an accident with an uninsured motorist when I lived in Georgia. The day these gentlemen went to court, I was there. The judge allowed me to speak. The man who hit me had to pay and have my car fixed. I also signed papers to have his driver's license revoked if he did not pay. When he missed his first payment, the insurance company sent me a note asking if I still wanted to revoke his license. I did. I signed the paper. Needless to say, the gentleman came, paid up in full next week to the insurance company. So, sir, you do have an option and none of that cost me a penny. But be in court the day he goes to court. Good luck, sir.
A RECENT story in the Southeast Missourian stated how great Missouri's economy was in 1997. The one paragraph that jumped out at me was how much the wages of Missourians increased in 1997. According to the article, goods-producing workers make an average of $600 per week while service workers make $356 per week. If you divide that by 40 hours, that comes to $15 and $8.90 per hour respectively. Please, tell me where these jobs are.
THIS IS in regards to all the news articles lately talking about Chelsea Clinton being a college student. Yeah, I think there's a lot of kids out there who are college students, but I don't think it needs to be in the paper. I think it's just an uproar. She's just a kid.
