WHILE VISITING Cape Girardeau, I found your article on federal gun cases quite amusing from the U.S. attorney. I am in law enforcement in the western part of Missouri and have been for over eight years. Our department works 70 to 80 hours a week, and if the federal prosecutors and county prosecutors would do the same, they could prosecute the criminal element. Which is the most important, chasing the meth makers and users or chasing the felony gun cases? If a felon goes to a registered ATF arms dealer, he can't buy firearm. The prosecutors do not need a new law or new laws. They just need to enforce the ones that are on the books. The ATF requires every purchaser to state that he is the actual buyer. If he lies and gives the firearms to a convicted felon, he can be prosecuted. If the ATF would enforce this portion of the law, this would eliminate these straw buyers, as they refer to them.
IT LOOKS to me like the only way Scott City and the surrounding area is going to get the problem solved with the interchange in Scott City and also the Diversion Channel bridge situation at Nash Road is for the state to require all the MoDOT managers in the area to have to move to Scott City or to Kelso for at least one year. I assure you after one month there would be plans and money allocated to fix the interchange and also the Diversion Channel bridge. It's just a suggestion, you might want to put it in the paper and see if any of the MoDOT officials are willing to take us up on that.
I SAW the Christmas displays at Cape County Park, and they were beautiful. But I think the Cape County Democrats, a party for gay rights and abortion which the Bible denounces, to have a display which to celebrate the birth of Christ is hypocritical.
I SEE in the Southeast Missourian that they're going to put fake grass at Houck Stadium. I can save them money on half the price. I'll sell the rugs in my front room.
WHEN BILL Clinton finishes his term, he could be a great guest on the Jerry Springer show with Monica and Hillary, of course. No one is too trashy for Jerry.
I'M WATCHING television, and there's people from different schools talking about free money for scholarships. It may be free to that person, but chances are the family helped pay for through their taxes. If they didn't, their friends and neighbors and relatives are paying it. There's no such thing as free money. The only way you get money for nothing is by taking it away from someone else through taxes or otherwise. That is a misnomer that may make people less reluctant to ask for money and soothe their conscience some by saying it's free. But whether it be the city of Cape Girardeau or an individual, the state of Missouri or whatever, there ain't no such thing as free money. I wish the people would quit talking about it.
THIS IS just a couple of questions in regards to the Christmas season. So, have you actually taught your child what the true meaning of Christmas is? Is it gimme, gimme, gimme, want, want, want, or is it just the matter of giving and spending time with your family? Maybe you should stop and think why you actually do what you do during this holiday season. Maybe that people are in need or people who are lonely do not need a purchased gift. Maybe they need a matter of service, a matter of help throughout the year or maybe something that's a more personalized gift that means something truly. Do you remember what you got last year, five years ago for Christmas from your best friend or one of your loved ones? The purchased gifts really, truly don't mean a lot, so maybe take the time to stop and think before you purchase that item and go all into debt. It's a matter of the time that you spend with your loved ones.
I WOULD like to applaud the Central High School choir members for the wonderful Madrigal Feaste held at the University Center ballroom. The evening was most enjoyable, and the vocal selections were outstanding. Everyone was dressed in medieval costumes, and the songs really put you in the Christmas spirit. I do not have a child in the choir, and I was most impressed to see high school students work together so well while having such a great time together. I look forward to attending next year and recommend it highly.
