Keep artificial turf out of Houck

I THINK upgrading Houck Stadium is a great idea. However, the football field should be left alone. All over the country, outdoor sports facilities are scrapping their artificial turf and returning to natural turf. Busch Stadium and Faroe Field at Missouri University are prime examples in our area. Football injuries are much more common on artificial turf and could actually hinder football recruitment as it did as Mizzou. I would like to see the regents take the million or so dollars designated for artificial turf and use it to even further upgrade the stadium. Artificial turf is a step backwards. Let's go forward by leaving the field natural.

Please don't build roundabout

PLEASE, PLEASE do not have a roundabout at Normal and Sprigg. We frequently use one in St. Louis, and people do not yield.

Just let them go away quietly

WHEN WILL the press stop cramming Bill and Hillary Clinton down the throats of the American people? The people of the U.S. are not proud of the those two individuals. They're a disgrace to this country. We don't need them brought to our attention constantly, day in and day out. Every time you turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper, there they are. Remember, Clinton is the one who is the perjurer, obstructed justice and used the Oval Office to seduce a girl who was approximately the age of his daughter. Both of them have been involved in untold scandals: Hillary's cattle futures, the disaster of the health-care plan where they were going to nationalize one-seventh of the national economy, Travelgate where she had the people fired then lied about it and the mysterious billing records that appeared in her residential area office after being under subpoena for two years. What kind of people are these? What kind of people do the press think Americans are that we want to be constantly reminded of such a terrible disgrace? Just let them go away. That's what we want. We're ready for Bill and Hillary Clinton to go away. Let's get back to a moral society. Let's elect a president who has some morals and values and principles, who stands for something.

What if it were a police officer?

I WOULD like to know in regards to that poor, unarmed, defenseless woman who was blasted by a shotgun: If it had been a police officer or a prominent person or a bystander knocking at the door for directions, would Mr. Swingle have tried to indict then, or would he have dropped the charges? Mr. Swingle uses who gets hurt to decide whether to press charges.

Quit bringing up the past

THIS IS in response to the story about Chances nightclub. It seems that every time something goes on with licenses, they always bring up the past when it was Peppy's. Well, it's not Peppy's anymore. It's Chances. It's a whole new owner. I don't understand why Police Chief Rick Hetzel is so against Doug Armor. He needs to really get to know this person before he judges him.

We're really a port, not a cape

I'M WONDERING what the deal is with the Cape Girardeau. A cape is defined by the World Book encyclopedia as a headland, cliff or point of land that projects prominently into a lake, sea or ocean. Tips of islands and continents' horns are good places where you find capes. Cape Girardeau doesn't fit any of these. We were once a port, so shouldn't it be called Port Girardeau rather than Cape Girardeau?

Interview was unnecessary, shameful

SHAME, SHAME to the "CBS Morning Show" to allow Mr. Hale, who is the president of the World Church of the Creator, to spew his venom of hatred to the public. I wasn't surprised when his Jewish counterpart got up and walked out. This interview was unnecessary and shameful.

Better photos for licenses, please

I'D JUST like to say that I think it's about time that the license bureau bought a camera that takes pictures of people that halfway resembles them.
