WHEN YOU have a barbarian warmonger as a leader of our country, it's not surprising that troubled people are killing. They are following this corrupt leader's example. He's guilty. He knows it, and the people know it. The country is suffering. He should have been forced out of the oval office. When laws are not enforced, you have chaos...

No enforcement produces chaos

WHEN YOU have a barbarian warmonger as a leader of our country, it's not surprising that troubled people are killing. They are following this corrupt leader's example. He's guilty. He knows it, and the people know it. The country is suffering. He should have been forced out of the oval office. When laws are not enforced, you have chaos.

Start school after Labor Day

MY CHILDREN attend Alma Schrader school, and I am very concerned over the possibility of them starting school on Aug. 26 and having no air conditioning. Due to the recent renovation, each classroom now only has two windows per room. I don't think this will be adequate ventilation for our children or teachers. I would like the school board to consider starting school the day after Labor Day. Maybe by then Alma Schrader and Clippard will be completed. This will help assure our children and staff a safer and healthier environment.

Train produces a lot of black smoke

I AGREE with the letter on the Opinion page of your paper of Aug. 11 questioning the saving of the St. Louis Iron Mountain Railroad in Jackson. Have you ever waited at the stop light for the train to go through and observed the pollution as the black smoke from the train fills the air?

Complaint about smoking at bingo

THIS IS another smoking complaint. I went to my last bingo at the Arena Building Monday night. It looked like a heavy fog. Even one of the concession workers walked out on the floor with her shirt pulled over her nose. This has nothing to do with the remodeling, because it was that way before they started. There are two breaks, and the smokers could go outside. Or better still, they could give it up for two and a half or three hours for their health as well as mine.

A double standard for morality

THESE FRUSTRATED Republicans, they call in talking about the legacy of the Clintons and mention Harry Truman. They really make me sick when they drag Harry Truman into it. I remember about 50 years they were throwing rocks at him, too. Hillary Clinton did not do the cheating. As far as we know, she was faithful to him all the way through. Now they're talking about her like she's an adulteress. Some of you must believe in the Christian religion like I do. She should be commended for sticking by him. What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You're condemning her for his adultery. He's asked for forgiveness. If God forgave Clinton, why shouldn't Hillary forgive him? You can't have it both ways. I think if George Bush would have been unfaithful to Barbara and she took him back, you'd be establishing a St. Barbara Day because he's a Republican. If a Democrat's unfaithful, he's a pervert. If a Republican's unfaithful ... well, we all sin.

Train leaves black dust a mile away

I WANT to say right on, Bob Goza, on your letter on the Jackson railroad issue. That thing is nothing but a polluter. I live over a mile from it, and my whole backyard is covered with black. It's a joke. They need to get rid of the thing and get the railroad tracks out and clean up that site.

Where are the pro-Clinton comments?

SPEAK OUT only prints negative comments about President Clinton and other Democrats. Even a Republican newspaper should be objective sometimes.

Copter was just following detour signs

WHAT'S THE big deal about the helicopter landing on Broadway? Looked at from above, that's what the pilot should have done -- according to the city's detour signs.
