I'M CALLING because I disagree with a comment in a letter to the editor. I thought the editorial cartoon of July 25 showed women in a good light. It showed that women could do all that and still command a NASA team.
I THINK the cartoon on the opinion page of the Missourian on July 28 was downright insulting. I don't think the Missourian should have printed this. The Kennedy families have suffered so much tragedy. Most of us have more respect for them to make a statement like that.
I BELIEVE the drivers around here need to learn the rules, and the officers need to enforce them. People are driving very slow in the left-hand land and making turns from the left-hand lane, not the turn lane. They're also failing to use blinkers. I don't know if they think it's saving on their light bill at home or what. These are some major problems around here, and they don't use turn signals to make turns, especially at Broadway and Kingshighway. But the main problem is they are impeding the flow of traffic by driving slowly in the passing lane.
ALL I'VE heard is fear about Y2K and the year 2000 computer-wise. Has it every occurred to anybody that you should fear Y2K Jesus Christ and Satan-wise? After all, Christ said that Satan could rule for 2,000 years on this earth, and have you ever seen so much evil and so much crime? Look at the shooting in Atlanta. Unbelievable.
I'D LIKE to respond to the Speak Out comment criticizing President Reagan for running up a big deficit when he was in office. I would like to get this straight. Jimmy Carter tore our military down while he was president. The ships wouldn't sail, the planes couldn't fly, and there was no replacement force to fix them. After Ronald Reagan was elected president, he built our military strength back up. That's where our big deficit came in at. So if you want to blame anyone, you can blame Jimmy Carter for part of the deficit that happened when Ronald Reagan was in. Reagan was looking out for our country by building our military back up to full force.
