THEY HAVE put a 25 mph on the Cape-Mississippi Bridge. OK, how about let's do some enforcement? And why couldn't we set up a weigh scale to see if these trucks are under the legal limit to be on the bridge in the first place? Enforce bridge regulations

THEY HAVE put a 25 mph on the Cape-Mississippi Bridge. OK, how about let's do some enforcement? And why couldn't we set up a weigh scale to see if these trucks are under the legal limit to be on the bridge in the first place?

Other college options

I'M A senior at Southeast Missouri State University, and I'd like to make a comment about the increase in tuition. I've been going to school for five years, and the tuition has increased every single year. This is ridiculous. We have not seen any results besides a piddly water fountain that the past president partially paid for, and we've not seen any results from the increase of tuition. The educaiton is not that much better. If you want to look at that, look at all the other colleges in the state of Missouri and compare. I agree with the Speak Out caller who says college is very expensive and an investment, but it's definitely not worth going to SEMO when you can choose other options.

Famous and infamous

SO MANY prominent people alive today were born and raised in and around my home town of Texarkana. I'm proud to say that Ross Perot is from Texarkana. Robert Duvall, one of the greatest actors and directors we have ever known, is from Simms, Texas, just a few miles from Texarkana. But the most shameful day of my life came when Bill Clinton from Hope, Ark., 30 miles from Texarkana became president.

People vs. oil

IF WE were bombing Kosovo because our oil supply was threatened, there would be universal applause. Unfortunately, it's only about the killing and displacement of 1 1/2 million people.

Into a hornet's nest

CLINTON HAS stirred up a hornet's nest in the Balkans. He should be brought before a world court to explain his power grab. His lack of credibility will never give him an effective leadership status. He's ruined himself before the world and won't even admit it. He's trying now to see if he can get away with sending our young men and sacrificing their lives in an invasion of a small Balkan country. He's deviously working behind the scenes to get this done. Speak out, Americans, against this demon.

Fed up with traffic tickets

WITH AS many traffic tickets as the city of Cape has been issuing, you would think that they would have enough money to build us bicycle paths. For some of us, this will be our next resort if these bully cops don't stop harassing us law-abiding citizens. Give us a break. Issuing tickets when we are seven or eight mph over and then writing us tickets for 10 mph is worthless. We have nothing to defend ourselves. Myself and a lot of others are fed up.

High cost of youth sports

MY SIX-year-old son now plays on one of the city league soccer teams. I signed him up on the appropriate day and it cost $20 and I didn't think much of it. Watching the games, I realized that there aren't many minorities out there. Now it's time to sign up for T-ball. That costs $45. I was wondering if anybody could explain to me why it costs $45 for a 6-year-old to play T-ball. I think it's a shame that not every child will be able to play because of that cost, especially minorities and low-income families. I wish someone could please explain that to me and check into it.

Where are war protesters

WITH WHAT'S going on in Kosovo? Where are all these peace-not-war hippies? Where are the Jane Fondas, the Bill and Hillary Clintons demonstrating against America in a war? This is not any different than Vietnam. Where are all the draft dodgers who left the country because they didn't believe in a war? I'll tell you what it is. It's because of this liberal president now we have in office. What hypocrites. Why is this scum so silent?

Share the presidency

AS AN independent voter, I think we need to pass a law that each party gets the presidency for four years. Let the Republicans have it for four years, then the Democrats can have it for four years. I get sick and tired of hearing the same people crying and whining and complaining all the dadgum time. We had 12 years of Democrats complaining and whining and crying about Reagan and Bush. Now, it's eight stinking years of hearing the Republicans whine and complain and cry and make all kinds of stuff. Good night. Four years is enough of either party have to listen to the bellyaching.

Enemy has radio now

I WOULD like to make a comment about the three soldiers who were taken prisoner. When I was in the service and we would go out on the field like that, either one out of three of us would have a walkie-talkie that would have different frequencies. If we go in there with ground troops, won't they be able to listen to our men right there on the ground since they've got one of our men's radio?
